My fiancee was born in Korea, and at 3 months old moved to Suriname where she lived until age 20. She went to college in the Netherlands, and she's been living in Korea for a couple of years now.

We're looking at the papers required for the interview (we're still very early in the process; haven't received NOA2 yet), and we noticed that she needs Police Certificates for all countries she's resided in for more than 6 months after age 16. This presents a challenge to us, since the records from Suriname can only be filed for in-person or through the local Suriname embassy. There is no Suriname embassy in Korea.

As part of her background check for the USCIS, won't they request criminal records anyway and put them in her packet? If we absolutely must provide this document, then we're going to have to shell out for her to travel to another country just to get it.

Thank you.

Does she have family member still living in Suriname? The US Reciprocity website says that family members can apply for one.

Well the Reciprocity table from the Department of State says the Police Record is Available even to people outside the country by going to the "nearest" Embassy or Consulate. Based on that, I think you might need to see if Japan, China or other country has an Embassy and if you can send a request by mail.

Here is the link to the DoS Reciprocity Table for Suriname. Search down the page for the info I have given you.

I don't suppose it would be possible for me to request it for her through the Suiname embassy in Miami, or through the NVC? We're going to need to request one from Holland through the National Visa Center anyway, because that is the official procedure for the Netherlands.
