Ann Coulter appeared on Fox news O'Reilly Factor and made the preposterous claim that radiation is good for you. She even claims that scientists have discovered this and the media is hiding it! She says the scientific consensus has changed and that it actually reduces the risk of cancer!

This sounds like the beginning of another right-wing BS 'truthiness' thing like their claims now that global warming has been debunked. Maybe if they say it loudly enough and enough times people will accept it as fact. Fox news viewers will believe almost anything!

Conservatives have better looking women in their camp, that is for sure. How that is relevent to anything is beyond me, just sayin'.

Amazing how all the "scientists" and just plain 'ol blabbermouths, come out defending nuke power. Just reinforces my belief that global warming is a hoax. Follow the money. I hope it will not be the tradgedy it can possibly be.

in every theoretical sense, she is right.

the thing with radiation (as with anything) is the ability of nature/beings to adapt to certain things.

It's the same way in different regions of the world how they can eat certain things, but if we eat it, it makes us sick.

If you believe in evolution, if you believe in adaptation, then what she's saying is correct.

Ever heard of radiation therapy?

Kool Aid drinkers from either side sound equally ridiculous.

Are there no limits to these peoples ignorance or are they merely looking for more ways at mediawhoring?

You do understand that evolutionary mutagenesis is one where reproductive fitness over thousands of years is something very different from, say- a mutation right in the middle of a gene that allows those brain cells to communicate properly in one individual, right?

I don't like doing that. I hesitated to even say anything but finally couldn't stay quiet any longer! Probably won't do any good, though I do find it interesting that in other posts he seems to identify as a conservative christian. Not sure how that kind of offensive statement fits in with his 'faith'!

If you don't report it, how will they know? By your silence, you are enabling.

The problem is she isn't speaking theoretically. She is actually talking about people exposed to radiation from the Fukushima plant. Assuming there is level of ionizing radiation that would be prophylactically beneficial to humans, we don't know what it is. To suggest that exposure to an unknown dose of ionizing radiation from nuclear fallout is beneficial is just silly.

What was completely asinine though was for her to try to support that argument by saying that only 31 deaths can be blamed on the Chernobyl disaster because other deaths haven't been confirmed by studies.

The subject is interesting, but her approach and rationale is absurd.

Wow. That is a bit short of the 1500 deaths I heard reported just the other day.

You mean for that every beneficial mutation, there are many more that are not even viable? The inefficiencies of evolution are fraught with genetic variant dead ends.

That's the way I understand it. Not necessarily the inefficiencies, but the mechanisms for demonstrating selective pressures for a species' continued existence and propagation.

It really takes a lot of ignorance to equate whole-body radiation with pinpoint cancer therapy.

Moths are the ones that amaze me, in how fast they adapt their camouflage. I saw one hiding in the bed of my truck, that was indistinguishable from the piece of lichen he landed on.

The way I understand it, camo in action isn't an adaptation but something it can already do. The genes for it I guess can be turned on and off by need.

Ann Coulter, on the other hand, IS likely the product of a genetic mutation that for some reason has been kept alive through the millenia by the sheer stupidity of those willing to give her the time of day.

I thought one of the first gene studies was a species of moth in England, that came in two varieties, one lighter, and one darker. The predominantly white moth was being eaten at a faster rate, than the less frequent variant of dark moth in areas where factory soot was dirtying the normally white dusting of snow on trees during winter. After a few generations, the darker moth became the predominate variety.

I had to look that one up.

That's what I would call selective pressure.

If only Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin could marry each other...

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Both sides are equally as guilty of that nonsense. Liberals sound just as stupid when they do it.

Everyone in Ukraine was told Chernobyl was nothing to worry about.
