There's news on CNN and other networks all the time about USCIS, ICE and CBP. But it's just not about the part of immigration you are interested in. It's about the part that most Americans are interested in.

True. I wasn't interested in this part either until I filed.

What do you mean, you cannot?

I mean, I really hope things go for you as planned. But plenty of people on these boards have lost wedding deposits before........

It surprises me that people still make concrete wedding plans without a Visa in hand. So many things could delay this process that it simply does not seem worth the risk.

No "hatorade", just being realistic. I hope everything works out for everyone.

My fiancee and I have approached this with the understanding that it is a process. While we have made tentaive plans (which, by the way, we have changed) we left everything flexible knowing the history of this process. The delays that occur have not frustrated us because we anticipated them from the begining. We expect the worst but hope for the best.

Everyone that applies for a K-1 should keep all plans tentative. We have always been at the mercy of the USCIS and DOS.

That's a good attitude going into it. :) I just worry for those who HAVE made plans... I hate hearing the stories of people losing money because of this process.

I also encourage you to take a moment from twitter, go to our petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/dont-keep-love-oceans-apart and sign. This automatically sends a letter to your congressional representative, senator, and the President. Also retweet this with #K1Vermonters as well and suggest it to friends and facebook.

Here is the letter:

Correct I-129F Backlog!

Greetings,

As American citizens we seek an immigration process that encourages immigrantswho contribute to American society, yet it protects our country. As participants, friends, and family of K-1/K-2 visa petitioners we are even more aware of the institutional role the United States Citizen and Immigration Service plays in this process. We are asking that you will inquire into the current process for I-129F petitions as well as press for a change to encourage more efficiency within the process. It is not only foreign beneficiaries being affected, but the lives of many United States citizens that are currently being held on hold. The role of the United States government is to aid its citizens, and this is an area where we feel aid is not being supplied as it could be.

Many petitioners have waited in excess of six months and it is increasing to seven and even eight months on average for certain petitioners. In between August 2010 to December 2010 at all Service Centers, it has gone from about 15,000 K-1 petitions to nearly 23,000 awaiting action. Yet, USCIS has not only failed to increase completion of these newly received, but has actually decreased processing. Furthermore, at the current rate it has been processing K-1 petitions, it will be a year before it goes through its current backlog. Yet, according to USCIS there are processing at a brisk rate of 5 months. Evidence supplied from this very agency as well as our personal experiences show this to be false.

We are future husbands and wives, future fathers and mothers, friends, and allies, and we ask that you help reform this unfair process in a way that is more efficient, benefits our nations and minimizes the separation of our future families. The role of the United States government is to help the American people. Under the current I-129F processing times, we feel that we the people are not being supported. We ask that USCIS process petitions in a more timely, efficient, and fairer manner.

Again, there are about 700 people still waiting and many who have recently finished the process. Let's see if we can get at least a 100 signatures. Keep on tweeting too, guys.

I just signed this petition too! I allowed it to access my facebook information as well, which is a first. I'm stingy usually about who I add there and other programs/causes. This hits home with me... I have many people on my facebook who are "pulling for me" and my lady already... I think I'll get at least 10 people to sign the petition as well! Yes we are become UNITED here and this unity came possibly way too late, yet it's still early if you think of the thousands of others who will be filing petitions. We could be the lot who gain enough weight and momentum to make a change AND watch this place in the future and smile at all the petitions that are approved in a much more timely manner.

Anything is worth a try, as everyone usually knows...

If you look at things closely.... I read many threads and see replies from many people, even if it has nothing to do with my stage/position in my process so far. I usually see that many are very intelligent. I think many people here are more organized/understanding of things (even when we're at a total loss) than people working for USCIS. We cannot deny that they are "slacking". That's so brutally obvious and honest. WE can kick it into high gear for sure... it may take more than we realize but as this movement snowballs over a period of god knows how long, it'll one day come that things are the way the "people" want. Government was supposed to work from the peoples' voice, since the beginning. There's been a long time of ignorance by the people, and government as well that has caused this.

Think of it as a makeover. We'll achieve this goal, we just have to be persistent... especially since there's no persistence when it comes to the people who are supposed to be looking after our best interests. We're rebuilding and reshaping. Don't think that any one of your "voices" doesn't count in this. Let's keep it moving! B-)

Christine, I understand your urgency and your frustration. All you can do is just keep trying. Just keep your head up girl, keep praying and don't drink the #hatorade. We're with you lady, 11-11-11 sounds wicked. :)

Thanks, trying to stay positive, hoping and praying that things will work out (for all of us, not just me). Definitely ignoring the haters. Now, time to tweet!
