Marino's original work was totally overshadowed by his Hendrix interpretations. After a while, all they wanted was Hendrix so that's what the fans got. If he had been in a different band maybe he'd be better known for his skill. Jeff Beck and Frank Satriani as well as Jimmy Page are all right up there. If you play like any of them, you are a master axeman.

You are right. I had several of his original work and was looking forward to seeing him play some of it so was disappointed. As we were leaving the concert most people were saying how awesome it was to see him play all Hendrix so it is a matter of perspective. It was a real good concert. Marino was a master.

It is also a matter of preferences on who is the best or top Guitar players. All of these are greats and there are many more. We have scratched the surface only. My personal fave has been Stevie Vaughn and to me he was the best. I never got to see him in concert settings though and only local clubs and maybe at least 30 times. I wish I could have seen him in concert to see if his playing can wow a huge crowd. I do have many faves though but the one tie in to them all is top notch guitar playing but also a great band. None of them would be up there if they didn't have that thick heavy thumping bass line and a drummer that could keep it all together. A nice keyboardist can really round that sound out nicely.

Here is a real good guitar sound and I am sure most remember the impact this song had on rock. It was huge and totally amazing.

One day Marino is on stage playing and Nugent has just finished his set. Nugent strolls out all plugged in and challenges Marino. Marino is pizzed at Nugent and they have a throw down, after the dust cleared Marino made it clear who the better guitar player was. I wish there was a video of it, can you imagine they two guys going head-to-head.

Heard this before. A vid would be nice to see. Marino and Nugent head to head would be a blast to see. Not many would have the balls to try to challenge Marino.

Supposed to have happened in Detroit, I don't know if it is urban legend or what. I hope someone has the video and uploads it. Nugent is crazy enough to challenge anyone!!!!

Forgot about the Madman being with the Amboy Dukes. Great song too. Look at how young he looked back then. I was going to go find their other big hit from back then but found this one when the Amboy Dukes got together again in 2009 and to see the old and new was fun.
