Getting the House Blessed

So, Anna is arriving on Sunday and has asked me to have the house blessed/consecrated before she gets here. I have contacted the local Russian Orthodox Church and Fr. Nicholas is going to come out on Saturday afternoon to perform the ceremony (if that is that correct word.)

My question is, is there anything I need to do to prepare for this? Or will I just let him come in and do his thing and I stay out of his way.

Also, I am assuming that a donation to the church will be appropriate afterwards, any suggestions as to how much would be the correct amount?

thanks in advance....

I think the priest(?) would have told you if you needed to do something in advance. Just make sure it's clean I guess. :D No idea what the going rate for consecrating is, but I'd expect you'd want to make it worth his while. Maybe somewhere in the range of $20-$30?

You're right at the end of house blessing season. (Right after Theophany at the end of Jan.) So it's not really like the priest is going out of his way. If he's just doing a regular house blessing it'll take him about 5 minutes. He'll come in, sprinkle some Holy Water around and sing a little bit. If you ask him for the full house consecration that takes a bit longer and requires some extra stuff, but that's best left to when you and your beloved are together.

As for what to give him, $20-$30 is alway's welcomed. Russian Priest's in the US are grossly under paid, like I know of several that gross less than 20K a year. They take the job cause they really believe in what they are doing, and they know that the people will take care of them.
