Believe me, no one thinks this process is funny - I for one hate my life... well, ok, I'm being a bit dramatic but it took me 6 months to get through the USCIS too, and unless I can get in on someone else's interview cancellation, I likely won't get an interview until the end of July - that would surpass 1 year for us! It's a nightmare!

Well.. I fully understand. Though the wait, the cost and the requirements are nowhere near comparison to how things are in my home country. A husband of a citizen just got deported. Reason? Their apartment did not have a 3 year lease, only a "2 year lease with opportunity of prolonging the agreement". That wasn't good enough for immigration service here.

You have to be atleast 24 years of age to even think of trying to get your spouse(no such thing as a fiance visa here) here permanently and that I-134 is peanuts next to the assets you are required to have besides 3 years of supporting yourself without having been a public charge. Next to that, a price of 1000 dollars for the petition(first part) and citizens here pay about 50% taxes of our income. And then there's the wait.

I do understand why it's not just a matter of weeks, 5 months(and then some) is a loong, looong time. But I(both my heart and mind) have to accept the process as the first thing as a legal way for me to be with my fiance for good.

You do realize that you had visa in hand in just over 5 months, but you're telling people not to whine when they are past that time just waiting for the NOA2?

Maybe, if it's not too much to ask, you could give them permission to whine a little bit. Maybe, you know, look at things from their perspective.

You know, I've thought that before, and if you watch on here the time and distance really does kill some people's relationships or even brings out the cold hard truth in some instances. But honestly that's not the governments business in the first place. They just need to know that both parties are "good" people and won't take advantage of government programs.

I disagree. I think that if they can dissolve the relationships that arnt strong enough to stand a year of not seeing each other an awful lot and it costs them nothing to do that, then they are right to do so.

Its not nice for the people waiting around. But from a business point of view, its free and easy and means that they arnt approving petitions for relationships that are going to dissolve anyway.,

I believe that if you cant get through a few months of not physically seeing your loved one, then you shouldnt be attempting to move to a different country to be with them, as there will be far bigger stumbling blocks than just not seeing someone in the flesh for a few months.

Contact your member of Congress and your US Senators and ask them to bring about the changes that you seek.

I wrote my senator (Tom Coburn) about the issues with bringing my spouse here and the long convuluted process. His response outlined his priorities for dealing with immigration and the issues surrounding a US citizen bringing a spouse or child to the US were at the bottom of his list. So now I know at least where my senator stands on the issue of immigration reform and I know what kind of response I will get from him should I run in to any roadblocks along the way.

It's upsetting that the few people who actual have fraudulent marriages have consequently put us all through this crazy process. The people who are determined to get to the U.S. will probably find some way and some form to do it. All of us here on VJ, on the other hand, must suffer and expose our private lives to total strangers in order to deem us as acceptable members of society. Yep, totally unfortunate but I want to be with the man I love so I'll tell the details of my private life to whoever wants to know if that what it takes for him to be with me.

Until immigration is on the president and Congress' priority list - and high on it - nothing will likely change. It's a self sustaining system which gets no taxpayer funds - meaning we get what we pay for out of a system that is already stretched to its limits.

Generally, enforcing the current laws (mainly employment) and securing the borders seems to get more attention when this discussion is had (over reform of the current system).
