Thinking ahead I-134 question

Thinking ahead just a bit - I'm a bit worried about the I-134. While I currently make enough money to support my fiance (and have for years) - I have very little money in savings (I am going to grad school and working full time) and I do not own real estate (I rent). Will this be a concern? I have read a bit about the I-134 and from what I understand if you make enough money to support the other person, and can prove this (which I can), that's okay. Are they looking for large amounts of savings? For somebody to own a home?

You should be fine! My husband was in the same boat. (Rented, not a huge amount of savings, just graduated but worked full time) As long as you can support your fiance by meeting to minimum income requirements you should be all set! We never had any issues and I just moved to the States a couples months ago! Congrats!

As long as you meet the income requirements (and have tax returns and pay stubs to prove it), you don't even have to declare assets and savings, according to senior members on this site.

Even then, most advice is that CURRENT income is what's important. I was really worried about this because last year I only worked full-time for 8 out of 12 months while in school full-time, and I fell short about $1,000 of the minimum requirement. I emailed the embassy where my fiancee will have her interview and was told the same thing - current income is most important. I have now been working 60 hours a week to show that income isn't an issue. Pay stubs and a letter from your employer will likely be the strongest determining factor for your (and our) affadavit of support.
