Hello every1

I attended my interview in London back in November and I was placed into Administrative Processing until I could provide The Affidavit of Support, Form I-864 (even though the embassy website said this was not needed for a k-1 visa). This form along with my passport was sent to the embassy a week later.

Since then I have remained in Administrative Processing and was just wondering how long other people have had to wait.

btw for others in this situation once u have been in Administrative Processing for 90 days you get the same email response from the embassy telling you there is nothing you can do but wait till they are finished.

I guess every country is different cause my fiancee was On AP but, it took only 2 to 3 weeks. YOu should write to them every other day, that is what i did for my fiancee.

Head over to the UK forum, there are others who have had similar situations from London.

I cant help much but there are people who can. Look for Treehugger, among others, i beleive her situation was similar to yours.

Edited to add..

Yes you will get a generic response to emails, and its wierd they asked for an I-864, i thought it was the I-134 that was required for a K1.

If you don't mind my asking did you turn in an I-134 or did you fail to submit any support / financial documentation?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. It is highly unusual for them to ask for an I-864. This does not need to be submitted for K-1 applicants until AOS. I-134 is what is required at interview stage.

No but i had my account details along with my fiancées plus a letter from her employer. If I had been readin these threads b4 my interview I wud have known but we were following the advice of her dads lawyer who said that wud b more than enough.

To avoid a panic amongst K1-ers. You do NOT need to do an I-864. You need I-134.

To imy1986- Call DOS and see if they can tell you if your additional documentation was received. Or have you gotten that kind of confirmation from the Embassy. I'm just wondering if they even got it.

And I'm curious to know if you were born in the UK and have spent your whole life there?

Iv spoken to both the embassy and DOS. It has been received but I still require additional AP and thats all they will tell me..

I am a British born citizen but i do have one of those common Muslim names. On top of that my mum is from a T country, I have visited one (although it was more than 9 yrs ago), and i have a degree in physics which I have been told doesn't look too good.

Then you have a few reasons why they might be running you through those extra optional security databases. Here's a page with information about that http://www2.gtlaw.com/practices/immigration/newsletter/archives/017/item07.htm

Young males from Muslim-dominated countries, or who have spent a considerable amount of time in such a counrty, or who (like you) have a muslim-related name/middle name/surname are very often put under AP for background and security checks, mainly being investigated for links to terrorist groups/organisations. It's unfortunate, it can be unfair and unwarranted in some cases, but it is unfortunately very common when one or more of the above is true.

There is no way to tell when AP is going to be over, as it seems like checks are done manually and every time there is a hit they need to pause and look into it before continuing with the checks. If you have a common name as you said, then the hits are going to be many more, so the process can take longer (unfortunately even several months). The only thing you can do is wait until you are contacted with the result of the AP (which in 95% of cases is approval of the visa as long as all your other documents are in order - on the bright side).

Also, just to say that missing an I-134 has nothing to do with AP. Your visa approval back in November was suspended until you could present them with the document they asked for. Once this was over and done with, you were placed in AP for the actual background and security checks.

My fiance had his interview at the London Embassy in October and wasn't missing any paperwork but put in Admin Processing. It will be 6 months next week and still getting all the same responses when we inquire "Still pending administrative processing". My fiance was born in London but family is from Pakistan originally and he has a common muslim name. I am concerned they will never take us out of administrative processing.
