Hi all,

What paperwork is needed specifically at Casa for the interview?

As if life isn't stressful enough right now, my co-sponsor just fell through (or is "deciding," because they don't believe that it is non-binding) for the I-134.

Does Casa ask for 100% or 125% of poverty level income? If the sponsor is unemployed, how much in assets do they need to prove?

This whole crazy journey just got a hell of a lot more stressful, since I now have 2.5 months to figure this out.

Thanks,

k

I am sorry, I hope you will be able to find another co-sponsor.....

Is it possible to delay things until you are working again? Did you make above the poverty levels last year? If yes to both, that would be something to think about. I'm not really sure how it works. Good luck to you...

The requirement is 125% of poverty level for your family size (including the immigrant) - no matter which consulate.

If using assets to qualify, then the assets must equal at least 3 times the difference between the sponsor's income and the 125% of poverty level for the household size. So for example if you are $5000 short on income to qualify for the 125%, then you need 3x$5000 in assets - $15,000.

Assets must be cash or what is considered "easily convertible" to cash - stocks, bonds or property.

I think the assets calculation at 3x the poverty level is just for married couples, but a K-1 filer would need to show 5x the poverty level if using assets. Since Casa keeps changing what kind of forms they want for K-1 filers, though, maybe they do things differently. But the general rule, I think, is 5x assets for fiances, 3x assets for spouses.

Oops - yes you are right. 3x is for spousal visas. But 5x for fiance visas.
