My fiance is in Sierra Leone and his designated embassy is Senegal. Mail service is unreliable and at it's best takes forever. To avoid flying to Senegal more than once for the intervew itself , should he email/phone the embassy when to expect the packet and to request delivery per DHL ? There is an office near him . We don't want to have to wait 6 weeks for slow mail service or chance it on getting lost or being termed undeliverable. Having to pay for a ticket to Senegal and to the US leaves no extra money to fly out to pick up the packet personally, then fly out again for the interview.

Has anyone here been through this situation?

We are still early in the process but we want to be prepared. It is very difficult having to deal with an embassy in another country because Sierra Leone does not process K visas there.

Any trail blazers and pathfinders out there who have been there done that ? We also would like to know of CHEAP places to stay in Dakar.

NOA1 June 13

touched June 16.

That's it.

Thanks for input !

Unless someone volunteers direct experience, I would contact the embassy and ask. Can't hurt. The packet is downloadable....

You will at least know that it's on its way when you contact the NVC after you receive your NOA2, so you'll have a better idea about the timing.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

The packet info is available on the Senegal consulate's website. I wrote most of the consulate profile for Senegal here on VJ, as I went through the consulate (I was living in Mali at the time).

Any specific questions, please let me know...

Hello Chris W,

How was you interview at Dakar Embassy? What kind of questions you were asked for?

Thanks

I think I posted a review of the Consulate in the Reviews section here on VJ... see if you can find it. If not, PM me, I don't read the board as often anymore...

Since I posted this topic I have found out that package 3 and 4 are not mailed out

but that the embassy will contact the fiance when they have received the case from the NVC.

I assume they will email him. But one should never assume!

I am still stuck in NVC and as soon as I have a case number will email the embassy.

I am very anxious to know how long the wait time is for the interview.

There are not many Senegal VJ 'ers here so I guess we will be the next in line to

post how the interview went.

Chris W posted his review.

Please, anyone else with Senegal please submit a review on your experience !!!

I also know that the only way to get info from the embassy is to buy this stupid

phone card from certain vendors, one card is good for 9 min. !!!!

Allthough I was able to get ONE reply per email from them with info on the general requirements

such as medical , list of doctors etc. attached, any further emails were ignored.

I hope to get a response on this thread from other Senegal VJ 'ers, past and present.

So.....calling all to meet here and let's talk and share info.

Omoba,

I am going through Senegal too, although, I am still at NVC. I just received my "agent of choice" and AOS bill recently and preparing to reply to those. As for the embassy process the only one I know of is Chris W. I did share a few e-mails with him on general issues. I can forward you those details.

As we are probably the only two going through Senegal presently I suggest we keep in touch and inform each other on any new developments. I e-mailed the Dakar Ebassy a while ago on general issues and they replied fairly quickly with some info.... I enquired about the affidavit of support and tax returns and they indicated that my wife do not have to submit those if they were submitted at NVC. I can forward you the e-mail if you like.

As I mentioned let we can keep in touch and this way we will help subsequent VJ members who will be going through DAKAR.

Cokebbeh, I pm'ed you with my email address so we can stay in touch.

I JUST receivd an email from Senegal in regards to my inquiry from last week.

My dilemma is this .......My fiance was told by the chief of police that he can get

his police certificate but he was replaced with another chief and is no longer at that office.

The new chief said there are no police cert. available. I have also seen a list that

states no cert. available in Sierra Leone.

So I emailed the Senegal embassy about what to do and got this two sentence reply:

They are not mandatory but if you can get one it would be helpful. Many applicants

do submit them.

Well, so it is a yes, no, maybe, question still !!! My fiance can't submit what the police chief

said is not done.

I wish they get in sync on that.

Actually....there are 3 going through the Dakar embassy, count me in! I have NO idea what is going on but it seems I need to get on the ball very fast. I read Chris' review and it was very helpful, but still made me nervous. Anyway, I am going to start doing some more research. Looking forward to hearing your experiences! And good luck in the process....

I don't get the chance to check VJ much at work, so please PM me if you have questions (I have an email notification for when I get PMs).

Don't be nervous about going through Dakar. I have been all over West Africa, and Dakar is most developed & efficient place I've been!

cokebbeh: i found out from an e-mail to the NVC today that the petition was sent to the consulate on October 23rd. Haven't received anything in the mail lately except for the NOA 2. So from what I have learned from omoba my fiance will need to go in and fill out "something" to get the interview process going. I see this is going to require a lot of vigilance just to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
