Two November filers in the family based forum got their interview appointments for late April. I think that's a good sign! At least we know things are moving in New York.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to add my case to this thread.

I am adjusting from a J-1 Visa after marriage with a U.S. citizen, and I live in Manhattan (NYC local office then).

Here's my timeline so far:

12/26/14: application received at Chicago lockbox (I-131, I-485, Advance of Parole, and EAD)

1/30/15: Biometrics appointment

2/4/15: case ready to be scheduled for an interview

2/17/15: advance of parole case approved

2/17/15: card ordered to be produced (EAD + advance of parole)

2/24/15: approval notice for advance of parole received in the mail.

2/28/15: EAD+ advance of parole card received in the mail.

As you can see it went really fast for the EAD+advance of parole card, only 2 months. However, I am still waiting for my interview date. It is getting very frustrating since I read many cases of people who got their itw date way faster than me. But since I'm sure it depends on the local office, I thought I would share my case here with people filing at the NYC local office.

Do you think the wait to get an interview date is gonna be way longer ? I'd like to go back to my home country for 2 months, so I'm waiting to get the date, but if it's gonna take much longer I could just leave right now with the advance of parole...

Good luck to everyone, and please share your experience and updates ;)

Hey guys, my husband and I had our interview today (priority date September 2, 2014) at Holtsville, NY (Long Island Field Office).

Our interview was scheduled at 9:40am and we arrived at about 9:33am. We went through security within a few minutes then were directed to an area (sign in/ reception area,i guess) where our interview letter would be requested before we proceeded to sit and wait for our name to be called by the Immigration Officer. No IDs were checked at either the security area or the reception area. There were two doors where officers were coming out to call their next interviewees (labeled ‘A’ and ‘B’). We waited maybe 50 minutes before we could be called in by the Immigration Officer (through door ‘A’). She was a lady maybe early to mid 30s in age. She seemed really pleasant as she expressed her delight in meeting us. She proceeded to leading us all the way to the back of the hallway area where her office was located.

She started by swearing us in then requesting my husband’s ID and my passport used to enter the US. She then asked my husband for his proof of citizenship (i handed her both his original Birth Certificate and U.S. Passport).

She went on to request additional proof of our bonafide marriage (specifies examples such as leases, joint accounts and insurances). While I was gathering those documents [we had a thick binder full of evidence even after submitting some with the original application], she began to question my spouse, although she stated that either one of us could respond to the questions.

IO: How did you two meet?

Sp: Dating App

IO: How long after meeting did you get married?

Sp: 1 yr 2 months

IO: Who was present at the wedding?

Me: Do you want me to tell you their names?

IO: No. Friends? Family?

Me: Friends

IO: Did you guys go out afterwards? … to a restaurant?

Me: Yes. [named the restaurant]

IO [specifically to me]: Do you have family here?

Me: yes, aunt

IO:What type of visa did you use to enter the US?

Me: student

IO: Where are your parents?

Me: back in my home country

————

IO [directed to me]: I’m going to ask you a few questions. She asks me to verify my address, age, work place. Honestly, i first thought she was asking these questions to my spouse about me (thinking she wanted to see if my spouse knew these facts about me), but it was only a matter of verification for her. While I was responding to the question on the address, i guess I was responding little too slowly so she completed my address by saying the city and zip code while i nodded in agreement. Afterwards, she went through the yes/no questions on the form I-485.

IO asks to see the photo album and quickly flips through it once i handed it to her.

IO asks us to select two pics from our photo album which shows both of our faces while she does stuff on her iPhone.

——

IO asks for recently filed taxes. She asks if we had any copies of it. We didn’t so she said that she won’t keep it but make a note that she saw it. She then went on to say that she had to wait for my background check to be updated on the system. We were told that although the background check was done before, it needs to be updated and that we were approved and our case status should be updated either this afternoon or the next morning once she gets the updated background check. We were told that we would receive the welcome letter within a week and the green card in two weeks. At this point we smiled and she asked if we had any questions. We didn’t so she was up and ready to usher us back out.

Observations:

-We were not asked any questions about one another.

-She didn’t look at the evidence that we gave her but quickly punched holes in there and placed them in our file.

-She gave us back the joint phone bill we gave her as evidence since she didn’t want anymore evidence at that point.

-Our interview lasted less than ten mins.

-There were more than a few questions asked but everything was speedily done. I think, as many have stated, the IOs make up their mind about the approval of a case even before the actual interview. We got the card production text message about two hours after the interview was completed.

P.S. sorry for the long post.

Congrats @ nycaribb,

Might I ask did you have any RFE during your application process or was it smooth through out the whole process, if it was I'm guessing my interview will not be until July seeing as you applied during September and just had your interview now.

The New York City Field Office at Federal Plaza is a bit quicker than the one in Long Island, though. You're interview may be sooner if your interview will be held at the former. No, i had no RFEs.

Hi,

I need to make sure I get the info on the following page right:

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do

this means that on the 28th of February 2015, the NYC field office was working on cases of people who applied around the 12th of July 2014?

If so, and if I consider that they receive and treat pretty much the same number of cases every month, my file that I filed 5 and half months later should be treated 5 months and a half later that feb 28th ?

also, I found these data sets for all applications in all offices, I am still trying to find a way to predict when my case will be treated out of these stats...

We just got our interview notification. Interview will be on May 22nd, finally!!! After 3 months of no updates. Our NOA date was December 9, so the interview will be about 5.5 months later. Looking at the timelines on here, that seems to be a pattern. I'm thinking that you guys who filed in late December, your interview will be mid-end June. Just my guess, but it seems realistic! It's good to know that they're working on it behind the scenes although we don't hear anything.

We're waiting for the letter in the mail with the location, but I'm pretty sure it will be at Federal Plaza. The status had changed to "ready to schedule interview" on January 13.

Question for everyone at Federal Plaza. What room is mentioned on your interview notice? Our room number is 4-437. I was just reading some articles to prepare for the interview when I found this one: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/immigration-fraud-agency-green-card-marriages-real-article-1.1064417 The article says people in room 437 are waiting for their Stokes interview!! :o I'm probably overreacting because our letter says absolutely nothing about Stokes interview and it's probably just the waiting room for everyone. Still curious about your interview notice!

Hi everyone,

I'm an early February, 2015 aos filer from New York. I've just called USCIS. It was shocking. I was told that my office still working on August,16 2014 files.
