Frankly, I have no clue why the NYC field office can be useless sometimes. However, I doubt you should use my case to judge yours because we were specifically told a background check was pending for our case so that might truly be the cause of the delay. Plus artist123 went after me and he got approved before me so you never know.

What's annoying is that I see the last time my case was touch according to the website was that day the interview notice was mailed, in the last week of march. As for the i-130 it has been touched since December of last year...These people are just unbelievable cruel and lazy I think.

My saga is with the GC is still not over. My last name is spelled incorrectly due to a clerical error at USCIS and now I have to go through a whole other process to have it replaced! I put up a post about it just now to see if anyone has experience of this. What a nightmare!

Striker, I am worn down with it. We were so relieved to get it and then this. All because of ineptness and laziness/tardiness. It takes the good out of everything, it really does. To be told by the customer service person on the end of the phone that the current processing times suggest that it will take 6 months. 6 months to replace the card. I can't see why? Surely, it's just a matter of amending their computer files and then issuing a new card. As you said, a passport takes a week! And if I have to go do the whole biometrics again I will go off my head! I feel exasperated. I have ten million things to do for work and now this thrown into the mix. I'm in disbelief at how tardy this is, I really am.

To Artist123,

I totally feel your pain. I wouldn't wish what you have gone through on my worst enemies. This is just plain out torture. I know the biometrics are good for one year so hopefully you won't have to go through that mess once again. I think your case warrants special considerations. Have you considered bringing up your case with your city council or district state senator? 6 months is just simply unacceptable. If they intervene on your behalf, maybe the process can be sped up? Afterall, its just pushing a button right?

Hello Striker,

Thanks for that idea. I am assuming that it's just pushing a button. Maybe I am incorrect.

I've been so annoyed since last night and especially on hearing this mornings news about what I now have to do, that I didn't even consider the option of city council or district state senator. I think I'll have to look into that because 6 months is just totally unacceptable. That would make the whole process a total of 14 months. I now have to put in an infopass, take a day off work (am self-employed, so I don't get paid for when I am not there). Hassle.

To Artist123,

I know that the process operationally speaking is just pushing a button but from an administrative standpoint, they want to make sure there is no fraud committed here no matter who is at fault so they go through all the background checks and nonsense all over again to check up on you and your spouse. On top of that, these I-90 cases are usually lower priority so an already stretched staff working on a plethora of I485, I751 and N400 cases where decisions are more real time and impactful will have little time to devote to the replacement of Green Cards and Naturalization Certificates. Passports are much faster since they done by the State Department.

I know this is not news you want to hear but we can thank all the people who married fraudulently for creating this behemoth of a bureaucracy for people like us. I guess your only recourse now is to inquire with your local politicians and explain your situation. No guarantees that they can do anything but what do you have to lose right?

Hi all,

At 5:15pm today, I received an email saying that "On July 2, 2013, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you."

The wait is officially over for me and I just want to thank everyone who has encouraged me throughout the process. NYC is the least efficient place to file a green card petition so we have to cope with the anxiety associated with it. What I can say is try to focus on other things while you are waiting. I happen to be studying for the new york bar exam lately and simply don't have much time worrying about it.

To artist 123:

It sucks that they misspelled your last name but the processing time they give you, i.e., 6 months, may not be what the reality is. Try to speak to your Congressman and in the worst case, you can always travel with your stamped passport before the new card is delivered.

Good luck to those of you who are still waiting and please keep us posted when good news arrive.

Well. The saga of the Green Card is not over. I received my GC in the mail on Monday 24th June. I checked everything was ok with the numbers and also my name was in block capitals. I'm from Ireland and my last name (surname) has a capital letter and apostrophe, and name. Last night, something made me go look at it again and I see that USCIS omitted the apostrophe and bunched all the last name letters together which now makes my name incorrect (yes, the apostrophe DOES make a differenc as it's my legal name).

My EAD and NY State ID have my name spelled correctly so this is an error at the USCIS office. If it was our error, we would have to pay almost 500 dollars to have it replaced.

I really am so angry and upset this morning. This is like a game of snakes and ladders! I just called USCIS and I have to now send them back the GC with copies of the letter of approval and a completed I-90 form to have it replaced. What's the beg deal you might think? The big deal is that current processing times mean that it may take 6 months. I was informed that they can 'probably' use my initial biometrics results but I may also have to get that done AGAIN!!!!! Also, I have to schedule and infopass to get my passport stamped as I have no stamp in my passport. I'm planning to go home for a week or so in September. This seems like so much hassle. All because somebody in the o

Has anybody got any experience with this? crying.gif

Wow, just when you thought you take a break from the incompetent folks at the USCIS, they throw more bull ####### your way. Anyways you don't have much to worry about, go get you passport stamp as soon as possible. At least you've been approved, which is what counts
