Hi, I am new to this thread and waiting for an interview. I read your post and was wondering if you can share more details. Thanks

My interview probably was among the roughest for various reasons but my case is slightly more comple than others. Here is it My Interview

Don't take my experience as the norm. Even with the differences in my case (I am older than my husband) etc, my whole journey was quite uneventful but the experience that I had at interview was not like anyone elses. For example when I went to room 810 at Federal Plaza on the 8th Floor, the receptionist immediately engaged us in conversation about marriage and the uselessness of marriage. She was making a lot of comments about marriage being a waste of time and it was silly to spend a lot of money on a marriage that could fail. Wierd small talk for a unit that was for those adjusting status. Then the Officer was clearly in a bad mood or took her job soo seriously that she was not allowed to smile. She was hostile from the start and seemed really peeed off to have us in the office. Maybe she had a bad long weekend.

The best advice I can give you is to review your forms with your spouse. My husband and I didnt really sit down and go over the forms as much as I wanted also if you dont know something just say so. My husband was so nervous he just volunteered information that had no relevance to the situation at all. I love him but at that point I could have strangled him (lovingly)

I feel better now that I know that every thing is on its way. The RFE wants a record of no marriage from 1989 to the present (Absent my present marriage, I have no reason to lie about being legally married. It doesnt matter if I jumped the broom, had a religious nikkah or married via a post it note..I have never been legally married so it is what it is. It just added more time to something that I really just want to be done with.

Thanks for the words.

Everything went well! We arrived there around 9:30 and went through the security. Then we checked in and they told us that we will be called. It was pretty busy over there, which was something surprising because it's in middle of nowhere! We waited for about an hour then the officer called our names. We followed her through the room and before we could even sit down, she started asking us questions like "how did you guys meet". it made us a little nervous at first. She didn't ask anything that is too weird, but asked questions like what's each other's phone numbers, where do we work, when did we meet each other's parents, whether the wedding was a small or a big one. We were relaxed and were just ourselves, answered the questions even joked around. We have submitted a few things like some photos, lease and a joint electricity bill. Later she said that we obviously knew what we were doing in our lives and she approved us and put the necessary stamps in my passport! The whole thing took like 15 minutes and it was much easier than I thought. Luckily the officer was very nice to us and didn't give us any hard time, and didn't separate us or anything. She said I will get my green card in about 6 weeks. 3 hours after the interview, my case got updated into Card/Document Production!

An RFE to prove you haven't been married before? How do you prove that? Not to sound dumb but if you were married already wouldn't there be a public record that the IO could easily access? Sorry to hear about your delay, hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Hi Guys,

Just want to share the good news and experience.

We checked in at the counter on the 8th floor at 8:00am. Our appointment is at 8:15am. Our IO called us in at 8:35am. The interview lasted about 40 minutes, at 9:15am. The questionaires are similar to any other interviews so we're just going to share our experience.

1. We prepared all the supporting documents that we can think of - 2 feet of documents including one personal photo album and one wedding album.

2. We prepared copies of what had been sent with the application - She was asking for some of it. Although we know that we sent them, we didn't mention it. We just gave her what she requested.

Our strategy is to make sure if the IO ask for something, we want to be able to give it to her. Eventhough she only saw half an inch of our documents, the preparation was still worth it. Mo has 2 kids with his ex-gf and we both have never met each other's parents. The IO had no problem with both issues and she even felt sorry for him that he don't get to see his kids anymore. She was really impressed with how organized our documents were. The IO took my EAD and I-94. She then sent us out to the waiting area. A few minutes later, she called us to the counter, passed me my passport with a red stamp on it. I'm greened! :D

Good luck guys!!

Best Wishes,

moSu

I proved it by obtaining documents from every country and state that I lived in from 16yrs old till now.

I have records from Florida and Illinois. My mum has received the UK record of non marriage (I will get that also). I also have two letters from the mosques that state that there is no record of me being married or divorced.

So I have six documents proving that there is no record of my being married. Kapow!

Funnily enough there is no way for an IO to obtain these kinds of records but I sure have learned the wisdom in less said the better (Or at least my poor husband has)
