Hi all,

So I'm working on my husband's AOS paperwork (from K-1) and I'm worried about the medical. He completed his medical in London and we have a copy of the DS-3025. The doctor said that he marked everything as complete, even though there was one vaccine my then-fiance needed to get, which he got the next day. When my fiance contacted the office to see if they needed confirmation of this vaccine, they said no, that the doctor had taken care of it. My fiance then asked at the embassy if everything was as it needed to be, and they said yes.

When I was looking over the copy we have of the DS-3025 that I was going to send along in the AOS paperwork, I noticed that it was marked incomplete at the bottom, but that it said that my fiance was eligible for blanket wavers as the incomplete vaccines were not medically appropriate. Is it necessary for me to go ahead and get the vaccines transcribed now, or should I just send everything off and hope for the best and if we get an RFE, deal with it then?

Hi there,

I had the same thing with my paper work being marked incomplete at the bottom. Even after seeing the civil surgeon he signed off my DS-3025 even though they told me that i needed a further 2 vaccinations, 1 being the second shot of the MMR, 2 being the hep B shot. So i just ignored their advice on it as i wasn't the appropriate age for the vaccinations. So i just sent everything off with the AOS & haven't had an RFE on it. My AOS was approved. Every case is different. Some people may take the chance on it & see what happens, then they can deal with the RFE is they get one, like i say every case is different.

We first met online 2004, but things started to get serious in Dec 2007. Made my first visit to the USA in march 2008 for 2 weeks. Then returned again in Aug 2008 for 3 months.. Then i came back to the UK for 5 months to return back to the USA April 2009 for another 3months.

Look at your DS-3025. If it has the following items, you don't need an I-693.

1. Shots marked (at least one of a series, date no longer than 10 years ago)

  • MMR
  • Td or Tdap or DT or DTP or DtaP
  • Varicella or VH written by it if you had chickenpox

2. Everything else marked not age appropriate

3. RESULTS section filled in with "incomplete may be eligible for blanket waiver"

4. Signed and dated by the doctor

If it's not completed like that then see a civil surgeon for the I-693. If it is complete, send a photocopy of your DS-3025.

Thank you, both. Yes, that is exactly how it was filled out. When I saw the word "incomplete", I got worried. We've sent it all off today, so hopefully it's all fine.

The key is the blanket waiver bit. If you read the instructions to panel physicians, it says almost everybody's should be marked incomplete--blanket waiver. It's because nobody gets every shot listed, mostly because they aren't age appropriat. So while you didn't do the entire list (incomplete) you are excused (waiver) from those not age or medically appropriate. A "blanket" waiver is one that you don't have to apply for. The adjudicator can use his descretion to apply a blanket waiver to excuse you from the infant shots.
