Hello everyone.

So here I was, thinking I'm a bit of a computer nerd who would know how to put up his avatar on this forum (since it makes it a little bit more personal when talking to other people)

Well, I guess I was wrong...

I am having a hard time resizing my avatar so that it is only 16 kb's

The 125x125 size is no problem, but somehow the smallest size I can get my picture (avatar) to be is around 27 kb.

Does anyone have any ideas, 'cause I ran out.

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks in advance :)

PS: I am using the "avatar" option in the "settings" section, I did however notice a "picture/photo" option as well right under the avatar option. Any difference in those 2? I was assuming the photo option would just put a photo of us as a sig under a forum post, so I didnt give it a try yet.

To be clear though, it's the avatar thing that I'm struggling with.

Download this program Pix Resizer

I use this for all my resizing needs. I just used it for my avatar. It takes it as small as 7 kb. Very user friendly.

you can also use a pic from photobucket or imageshack..

just copy and paste the direct link code on photobucket to where it says "Enter a URL to an online avatar image"

Use MS paint to edit the picture down to size. Save the image as jpeg file.

Bill, if you don't have a legitimate response, it's ok that you don't post. You don't need to respond to every single post on VJ.

The resize program that Myopia suggested should do fine. You could just try saving the file as a different file format.

Thanks everyone for your helpful responses.

@Myopia: I installed the program you linked and it works wonders, thanks so much!

I already had tried the MS Paint and saving to jpeg etc formats, but that still only brought it down to about 27-ish Kb's

The program you linked got it down to about as small as 7kb's, so thanks a lot!!

Problem solved.

Heh, I really need to get around to loading an avatar one of these days. Thanks to this thread I'll save myself some frustration when I do. :D

Ideally you should spend thousands of dollars on Adobe Creative Suite. Then open the image in photoshop and change the compression until its under 27kb.

People actually pay for that program package?

simplest thing to do is just do what I suggested, use the code from an uploaded pic on photobucket .. then you don't have to mess around with the size :P

If he/she learned how to do that, he/she could hotlink like the rest of us in the playground forums.
