More people die each winter in the heartland from weather related incidents than have in an entire 100 years from earthquakes in California.

I guess God is sending mixed messages.

Perhaps God is female after all.

That's a brilliant image, I'm just trying to decide who'd be the 'pope' of capitalism, contenders?

Goldman Sachs. It need not be an individual.

"California outperform the rest of this country" .... lol ?

California is bankrupt. It brought upon it's own demise.

I pull open a jobs search, nationwide, and half of the hits I get are in Cali. Demise?

Demise? That's nearly as nutty as thinking it's going to sink into the ocean.

States like Cali (Illinois and New Jersey are also good examples) are classic examples of where the problem really is spending. There is no revenue problem at all. Between remittances to the Federal Government and local governments that just get more bloated every year, it's a classic spending problem.

Announce that all illegals living in California can immediately get full citizenship rights, US passports, US id, social security number and card, all for a 1 time $300 fee.

The only stipulation is the state withholds $100 from their paychecks each month for 10 years (or 15 years, 20 years, rest of their lives, etc).

How many illegals live in Cali? 10 million?

So you'd get roughly 3 billion dollars right away and then an additional 1 billion dollars PER MONTH for a decade....Cali would be booming. Problem solved.

California already is booming. California has been America's perennial boomtown for generations.

Rein in the out of control expenditures, and the intense amount of entrepreneurial activity taking place in California will become obvious to those who aren't paying close attention.

As for illegals, I don't know what you do about that.

US citizenship ? BS !!!! Don't lay California's screw ups on the rest of the US. There is no d@mn reason the US should have to deal with California's problems. California screws themselves. Let California leave the USA and then they can give those illegals California citizenship.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

What pisses me off the most is not that California has high taxes, but the total incompetence in using those taxes which I suspect is down in part to a lot of corruption. I pay more in taxes here than I did in the UK and I get less for my money. If I got free point of use health care and decent schools, libraries, judicial system etc I wouldn't mind but we don't, it's better than nothing but it's not good. I'd like more independent auditing and a more business like approach to expenditure and less old boys living it up at my expense.

California is booming ? You live on the east coast. Let me tell you about Californian's. They leave California in droves and move on up to Oregon and Washington State and then proceed to screw said states up with their California mentality. If California was "booming" like you say, then explain the mass exodus.

Agreed. This is precisely the problem in other states with similar problems. Illinois and New Jersey and good examples of states with a lot of economic activity but where endemic corruption have driven budgets over a cliff.

It's an exodus of people who can't afford to live there anymore. California real estate is expensive because it is desirable. If the exodus was large enough and there were no buyers, then prices would adjust to reflect that reality. Free market 101.

It's the whole symptom of "i want mine too."

Everyone seems to forget where the money comes from. All they know is that they want it and the politicians (all the way down to the lowly small town councilman) is willing to get it for them if it keeps them in their seat.

California is expensive for the fact they haven't reached reality yet. When a state starts handing out "IOU's" that should be a warning sign right there.

The election system doesn't help much; the only people who run are 'in on' the scams.

You're assuming we (the citizens) get a lot for our tax money in these high-tax states. We don't. The primary driver out here is political corruption, not greedy citizens who want a lot.

California is expensive for the fact they haven't reached reality yet.

That sentence doesn't even mean anything.
