Kansas state representative Virgil Peck is apparently trying to give people from southeast Kansas a bad name (along with one for himself, too). Dome on the Range calls out Peck for some unbelievably offensive and hate-filled statements:

Today in the Kansas House Appropriations Committee, during a discussion of methods used to exterminate feral swine (which include shooting them from a helicopter), Rep. Virgil Peck (R- Tyro) suggested that the state use the same approach as a solution to our state's immigration problems.

"It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal immigration problem," said Peck.

Peck's response to media coverage of this? He was only joking, apparently. As if even a joke like that would be in any way fitting for a public representative. Oh and, it's not his fault either, apparently everyone else from where he is from is also a racist:

"I was just speaking like a southeast Kansas person," Peck said to the Lawrence Journal Word.

I'm looking at the population density map of SE Kansas on http://projects.nytimes.com/census/2010/explorer which uses Census ACS data... and it looks like there are hardly any people there. So the good news is, if he's just talking in the style of people from SE Kansas, then that's not a whole lot of people he's representing.

And you don't think he's not getting a personal call from House Speaker John Boehner after talking that trash? After that conversation he will likely STFU in the future or face even more heat.

But then again Jesse Jackson referred to NYC as "Hymietown" and admitted spitting in white folks drinks while he worked at a country club in his youth. And this guy actually ran for president of the USA.

All stupid comments are eventually forgiven in due time. The public's memory is quite short. Especially if your constituents don't fit that demographic.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Did he really "call" for gunning down illegals?

Seems it would be much more truthful to say he "joked about" gunning down illegals.

... not that my titles are always 100% accurate.
