Why the advice against K1?

In developing news, the immigration lawyer my fiance consulted before filing the I-129f told him that it would be around a year to get a K1 since the USCIS is currently processing requests made in June last year. Is this true? I might have to consult the Mexico board, but it seems exaggerated.

It sounds like the service centers are working through September/October petitions right now, but "around a year" is a fair estimate, I would say. Our case is not complicated but we got an RFE for something really minor, and then the consulate wanted additional proof of my status in Canada, and now we're into month 8. My consulate is booking July interview dates right now, so it will have been a year by then :( Anyway, the Mexican boards will give you a clearer picture for sure. Good luck!

Its a tough one to exactly estimate how long the process will take as there are so many variables along the way.

Check the "Immigration Timelines" section in the blue bar at the top of the page here on VJ for some idea. Currently CSC are processing Oct 27th, according to VJ.

Igors List is also valuable to look at other members approvals. Of the last 10 K1 approvals, the quickest was 2 months (i imagine expedited), and the longest 7 months for the I29F approvals.

I imagine you will be done in less than a year, but do check the Mexico forum for more specific information!

We are going thru Mexico K1 we also have 2 kids immigrating with mom...No lawyer...why spend the extra money? This website is a fantastic resource you don't need a lawyer if you can read!

I would say about in 8 months you could be in the USA once you file the 1st papers!

Around a year is a fair estimate for you because you're going through the consulate in Montreal, which is notoriously backlogged and slow. The OP would be going through the consulate in Juarez, which is considerably faster.
