Hail O ye VJers...

Kindly make comments if you have answers to any of the following:

Form I-134:

Would the part on Mortgage etc be ignored (N/A) if one resides in an Apartment?

Since the form asks for "any or all of the following......bank statement, employer letter......", one of those should suffice right? Missed getting to the bank on Friday and i want to mail out documents first thing Tuesday morning so i am considering just going with letter from employer.

Income Tax Records

Site is rife with statements of people going to interview with income tax records? Would that requirement be listed on a page within the initial package that the beneficiary receives? There seems to be different schools of thought...one year income tax records or three years?

Payment Stubs?

Are these necessary in addition to income tax and (i guess W2s??)

What amount may be considered adequate....six months? One year??

Would appreciate input from those that have gone through the Lagos Embassy. Will probably post this there as well but the more input i get the better hence the posting here....wider audience...

Ofcourse my "default M.O" right now is to send more than necessary rather than less but perhaps i f i get enough opinions, i might send fewer items.

Courier service

Talking about sending, has there been any unofficial poll regarding courier services. I did come across someone complaining bitterly about UPS. So, i ask those who have sent to Lagos, what courier service did you use and what was your experience?

SS card

okay so this may be considered jumping the gun but here goes. What is the best plan here without falling into the pit-holes. Scenario...looking ahead........she arrives NY Nov 10. (in time to marvel at the stuffed turkeys), no wedding date set....what would be the best route for SSC? Oh by the way i have read the wonderfully written stuff by MD..... but i guess my brain`s document zapped at the moment and i could do with a simpler version...

She would need Driver`s license....how does SSC come into the equation?

She may get EAD at JFK................how would SSC fit in?

Yup, i knew this was a posting i just could not sequester.............all my rambling thoughts...

Okay, i am done...for now........Your comments, answers, suggestions....would be welcome. Thanks :help:

The I-134 when used by consulates in K visa cases is only one thing that a conof may use to determine if the applicant will or wont become a public charge. Hence why there is often other documentation required other then what the I-134 instructions state. Consulates vary in their requirements.

Bank letter, and empyoyer letter are needed. The 6 months pay stubs helps establish current income but are not required, the tax info should be Copies of the past 1-3 years returns (1040, 1040A or 1040EZ, W2s and any 1099 forms)

If she gets a work authorization stamp at the POE if lucky, or after getting a work permit then got to the local social security office and apply for one.

I like your remark about marveling at the stuffed turkies!

Drivers license is not has hard but if she lacks one from home country, then have fun preparing her for the driving tests!

Not so; a K-1 may apply for a Social Security account in her first 76 days in the US.

Please see the SS Guide here at VJ, and/or posts from mdyoung.

OP: my suggestion to you, considering everything about Lagos, is to put together the most well-documented affidavit you can. If this means waiting a day to get a bank letter, wait. Same for paystubs et al.

I guess the simple version is go to the nearest SSA office once she gets here with her I-94, passport, birth certificate and Form SS-5. PM me when the time comes and I'll answer any questions you have about the process.

masterpiece,

You omitted two important phrases in your paraphrase of the I-134 instructions - "that are applicable" and "as appropriate".

Every person's situation is different, what will suffice for one may not suffice for another. You should submit what is applicable and appropriate for your financial situation, which you have not described so it's not possible to say more.

YuAndDan,

Not necessarily. Some people do not have bank accounts, some people do not have employment, and yet they might be quite suitbable as sponsors.

...

Bank letter, and empyoyer letter are needed. ....
