Ding ding! Round 2 for Biometrics :P

So I got the old "The FBI was unable to process your fingerprint card" ASC letter, complete with a new Biometrics appointment time for a little under a month. A tad irritating, but I understand this happens to quite a few people, so I'm not all too steamed up about it (plus I'm fortunate enough that my ASC is about a 5-minute drive from my house!)

Couple questions though:

1. When I got my prints done for AOS (in 2008), I was told that they weren't coming out too well and they took a set of "physical" prints, with paper and ink, as well. If USCIS rejected the scanned prints they said they would submit the physical instead. They didn't take any ink prints this time; would it be worth me asking them to do so the next time I go, so they have a "backup" to send to USCIS? Or, have they discontinued the use of ink prints as a valid form of print-taking altogether (does anyone know)?

2. What's the most number of times they could potentially re-issue an ASC notice for me? I've heard of some people getting an RFE after their second print rejection asking for a police report from any cities they've lived in within the US, to prove that they have no arrest record... is that the case? Or could they send out ASC notices till Kingdom Come? There's a saying about insanity being where you do the same thing over and over and expect different results...
