Joint Sponsor Passed Away

Hi guys,

I've tried looking at the USCIS website to no avail. Sadly my joint sponsor (Father-In-Law) passed away unexpectedly in January. My GC was approved in July last year so my next step will be removing conditions in 2012. I just need to find out if I need to notify USCIS that he has passed or do anything anything else?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss.

Your father-in-law's obligations have ended and his Estate has no obligation in relation to the sponsorship. There is no need to do anything. Also, you will never need to provide a new sponsor, just in case you were wondering about that.

I was wondering and my husband's Aunt had agreed to be my new sponsor if we needed one. So I guess we just carry on as normal and remove conditions when the time is here?

The Joint Sponsor's obligations under the I-864 ends. There is no need for the immigrant to find a new sponsor because the law does not require it.

You don't need to do anything. You don't need to report the death of the Joint Sponsor. You don't need a new sponsor.
