Hi everyone!

I filed for AOS on July 10th and got my biometrics done on August 4th. I didn't file for EAD since my lawyer told me that it would only take a few months to get a green card...But now I start thinking of applying for EAD just because I am not sure how long it will take to receive my interview date and worried it might take more than we expected. (And more importantly I need to work!)

Also I can't see my case status in the system on their website... It's been almost 2 month since I filed for AOS. My receipt number starts with MSC-XXXX... does anyone have the same problems I have?

Please advise! Thank you.

EADs are currently taking 3+ months to be issued. You should be watching the dates at uscis.gov for your DISTRICT OFFICE for I-485 to see how long you *might* expect your AOS case to take. Looking at your individual case number won't really tell you anything different than that at this point.

Thank you for your post. So it is currently taking 3 months to get a EAD? Can I walk in my district office and apply for it? I am sorry that I am a beginner here :( I am living in San Diego county. I should have applied for EAD when we filed for AOS...but it is too late I guess!

hmmm. SanD has Feb 23 06 as their processing date for I-485. That could be true, or not. Suggest you find other recent SD VJ users to see what their experiences have been.

As for 'too late', I guess that depends. :)

It might be fun to call that lawyer and ask his opinion now. :innocent:

If you apply for it now, it's an insurance policy. Who knows, it may come in useful after all!

Thank you for lookin up on the processing time. I just checked the processing at San Diego office myself. I actually asked my lawyer if I should apply for EAD and he told me my case has been pending and if I apply for EAD, I will get it a few weeks after the interview. But I don't know how far I can believe him. (I know I should follow his advice...) He got contacted by CIS regarding my missing documents a month ago so I guess that means they are going through my application right now?

Generally speaking, how long does it usually take to receive an interview notice after the fingerprints? According to my lawyer it is a few months but it depends on where your district office is?

Thank you!

Indeed. My DO has processing date of Feb 4th, 2006, and I have my interview in October.

So if I file, can I just go to my district office, which I assume, is San Diego since I live in San Diego county? Or send the application to my district office? Please advise.

Nothing is filed locally. Go to the uscis.gov forms page for I-765 and follow the filing instructions. You will need evidence of your I-485 filing, I believe, so read carefully.

Don't just listen to me. ALWAYS go to uscis.gov for the most up to date forms, fees, mailing addresses and instructions. (but there's still no local filing of anything. :) )

if i had known...

I have my interview next Wednesday. I filed for AOS/EAD/AP at the same time, but it looks like I'm gonna get my GC before EAD/AP.

If the interview goes well, of course!

Turns out to be a waste of time and money for me...

But then again, some people have to wait a long time before their interview..

Agreed. I would much rather have filed for an EAD and not need it than to need it and not file. When you look at the insurance train of thought, it's very very cheap "insurance".
