Extending I-94 with B2 visa

Hey VJ community,

My mom came here in Nov 2010 with a B2 visa with an I-94 expiration date of May 2011. Her visa is valid until Nov 2011. We took her to have a mammogram and the hospital referred her to get a biopsy done. The first available appt is mid-May, so my question is: Can we extend her I-94 by filling I-539 ($290) with the required documents? If extended it will be great so we can get her tested and necessary treatment if needed. If not, what are our options?
