I send them an e-mail concerning about re-opening the US Embassy in Cairo, well this is what i got for their answer. Anyone petitioning their fiancee will have to wait for awhile. My approval will expire in June hopefully they will open around that time. I can understand the concern of their security and safety of our own people there. I feel bad for me and my fiancee that we have to wait....this far. Hopefully they will re-open soon. :(

Thank you for contacting Cairo Visa Inquiries.

Due to security concerns, all visa services at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo are suspended until further notice. The Embassy regrets any inconvenience this temporary suspension may cause for persons wishing to visit or immigrate to the United States. The Embassy will resume visa operations as circumstances permit. The Embassy plans to resume limited processing of immigrant visas (IV) for the spouses and children of U.S. citizens soon. We will contact applicants in these categories with previously scheduled interviews for rescheduling.

The Embassy appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as consular service hours are adapted as necessary to ensure the full safety of consular clients and Embassy staff.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

They won't penalize you for going over the expiry date if it was impossible for you to interview in that time. I'm sure that they will have many many people in similar situations, and I feel horrible for all of you that are going to have to wait so long for them to sort it out so you can reunite with your loved ones :(

Right now the only option available is to transfer to another Embassy. I'm working on getting ours transferred to Abu Dhabi but check other embassies and see if they're willing to accept a transfer.

I do not know if this is the answer. To be accepted from another country we have to contact them for permission to transfer and approval. I do not know if i want to go this route yet. Well wait and see how these goes maybe they will re-open soon....thanks for the thought...

My NOA2 expired in November and the embassy automatically extended the approval and I wrote them a letter. They can extend it for 4 months and we had no problems with the approval at his interview in January. The Canada embassy is still closed too. Last night when I spoke to my fiance he said that for the last 2 hrs they were hearing ppl fighting in the streets and heard the sound of gun shots. Also heard from a reporter and my fiance about the fighting between the christian and muslims. The US is well aware of what is going on there, things are still not that stable, and as long as this continues they will not reopen. Its very sad, I'm happy the egyptian people won against Mubarak, but at the same time I'm very selfish and wishing this didn't happen or that it happened after my fiance was here. I pray for all of us in this situation

I wouldn't know

I know Hilary Clinton is in Cairo right now and just read a statement from her that she is happy with the way things are going there. Hopefully this will influence the government to reopen the embassy.

Copying this from my post in the consulate forum since a few of us are stuck:

I started working on getting our K1 petition transferred from Cairo to Abu Dhabi last week so I sent an email to Cairo checking to see if they had received our packet yet and another to Abu Dhabi asking if they will accept a transfer request.

I got an email from both embassies today confirming both but the email from Cairo threw me off:

Kindly note that the packet of instructions was sent to you on 14 March 2011. In case you did not receive it within one week, kindly send us the address and telephone numbers in Sudan to be able to re-send you the packet of instructions.

Regards,

Consular Section

US Embassy Cairo

MR

I had assumed since they were closed they would not be processing any applications which included sending out information packets. In the March 1 posting they said they would do limited process of spousal/child visas, I assumed this did not include the K1 visa. Does this mean they will be processing our visa petition and we'll get an interview?

My fiancee and I decided to wait a week to see what the visa packet says before we proceed with transferring our case to Abu Dhabi.

Doesn't Sudan have a US Embassy where people can get their interview done?
