Will I need to take a test again?

Hi all, just a quick question:

I have a Louisiana DL but we are moving to North Dakota and I was told that I will have to get a ND dl (I am a military spouse). Does anyone know if you just get the new license or if you have to take the entire test again, written and roadtest?

Thanks!

I believe that generally you just have to do the written test but I think that some states will just let you swap your licence. I think that you'd have to check the ND DMV website.

Duh, lol

I should have known to look there first.

It seems like they require the vision test and thenI MAY be required to take the written and roadtest.

Now, do you usually get to keep the old license? So in case we go back to Louisiana one day, I'd still have my license from there?

Military spouses are no longer required to change residency if they move on military orders. You should be able to keep your residency in LA and therefore your LA drivers license, if you wish. Have you husband give the local Miltary Legal Services Office a call to confirm. Or you can also google "Military Spouse Residency Relief Act (MSRRA)"

Oh, awesome!

I don't mind to change my residency. I am only a LA resident because that wasmy husbands duty station when I moved to the US after we got married. I have no further ties to that state.

I hope I will be able to change it to Texas one day so we both have the same state as residence...

I was just wondering about the dl, if I didn't HAVE to change it, it would be just one thing I could check off of my loooong to-do list.:)

Thank you Y&E and Geoff1068!
