Why no LOOTING in Japan?

Obama is golfing, CNN is ignoring Japan, the scientists tell us nuclear power is perfectly safe. The recession is over, Happy days are here again.

I do recall Bush taking a lot of heat for not doing enough for the paltry Indonesian Tsunami a few years ago, anyone remember that?

So why do you think there is no looting in Japan? I wish I could say it is because they are all armed, but I know they aren't. I wonder why they can endure a catastrophe such as this without looting and rioting and general mayhem and our cities cannot.

What was so special about New Orleans that out of the wide area destroyed along the coast, it was primarily New Orleans where people descended into what we saw on our screens.

IT should be mentioned there were communities of all income levels and communities, both Black and White that were also devastated but we did not see the same reaction.

When you have Cops either abandoning their jobs or partaking in the criminal activity... thats almost as bad as it gets.

I'm more interested in how you seem to think you have authoritative knowledge of what is going on in Japan when large numbers of people are still missing and rescue teams haven't reached many areas.

What should be obvious to everyone is a single article may not reflect the conditions across the affected region.

Surely i can't be the only person that has occurred to. It should be common sense.

When LA went up in flames....as people were beat down in the streets, it didn't take weeks to confirm it.

Oh I see. So the missing people are really not missing. They are looting and rioting just beyond the range of the cameras.

I guess the difference is that the rescue teams managed by George Bush got to the people sooner, while they were still looting and we got to see it on TV.

It is common sense that there IS rioting and looting in Japan but we just haven't seen it yet. OK. we'll check back in a few weeks.

The Japanese citizens likely have confidence in their authorities to provide help in an emergency, therefore looting and taking advantage of the situation at the expense of one's neighbours is going to be low, although I am sure there is some criminal activity spurred by the crisis. One can safely conclude that whether or not looting etc go on in the face of a crisis has nothing to do with 'cultural traits' (or, how black one is) and everything to do with the overall levels of poverty and education. The more educated and less poor a population is, the more likely it is to believe that the authorities can and will get things back to normal as soon as is practically possible.

I realise of course that in the US this habit of undermining state and government authorities means that even those who are not completely without education believe that relying on organised relief is stupid, even while access to security, stability and resources to successfully deal with such catastrophes is only to be found at governmental level.
