Why no LOOTING in Japan?

Wouldn't now be a good time to remember Pearl Harbor and make sure that the American public won't be buying a Honda or Toyota anytime soon again? Just sayin . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Just sayin what? That modern day Americans should judge modern day Japan for something that happened nearly 70 years ago?

Why would someone do that?

Ohhh, those were jokes.

Except not funny.

But back to the original topic. I think you're right, the cultural difference is probably the real reason for the lack of looting.

Likely socio-cultural, not racial. I know some people will try to create racial outrage due to their own hidden preconceptions.

I have been to Japan several times. Get them licored up, and you shall see them behaving like many Americans.

As well as BMW, Mercedes, VW or Audi?

And about a dozen other German company's that are alive and going today even though they got fat off of slave labor before and during the war. IB Farben is a prime example.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I've heard that - my dad used to work for a Japanese firm back in the 80's and apparently the visiting execs had a thing for whiskey, strip clubs and prostitutes.

The lesson I'm taking from this thread is...I better move to Japantown asap to avoid looting in the next earthquake.

ROFLMAO!!!!! Only someone from SF would know this... lol. I'm coming too! Move over!!

How about the fact that our local media in the Bay Area point of focus was on local marina damage and people's BOATS getting tossed around! Why less coverage on our Japanese friends!? HOW ridiculously embarrassing to watch how materialistic these people can be! A boat or materials can be recovered; people's lives cannot. They [boat owners] should be beyond grateful they didn't lose their lives or have their families missing. One other thing, were the surfers! OK I will admit to owning my long board too. But even a novice knows that you do not go out there in dangerous waters! STUPID STUPID and SELFISH. :bonk: There. I said it. That that, coming from a Bay Area, Californian.

Heck some associates have their wives signing the checks for their prostitutes. I'm sure some would like that over here.

I call it "The Dumbing Down of America". Even our TV news is nothing more than a bad joke these days. We have turned into a country of idiots imo.
