In Munich I walked through the underpass walking from a train station

There were jewelers shops down there with no grills on the windows !

I was gobsmacked

The US has losts of public facilities like pumps and meters etc that would be stolen or vandalised within 4 hours in the UK but they remain unmolested for the most part

The US is more like Germany in that regard and the UK is more like dirty old Italy

I would rather live in Rumania than Saudi though... or even the Ukraine. I went there 20 years ago and I can still smell the pigeon poop when I think about Odessa

Ukraine. Not "the Ukraine". A lot has changed in 20 years. I lived in Odessa until 5 years ago. I still smell the perfume from all the hot women and I know I am in Ukraine (not "the Ukraine") when I hear the heels on the cobblestones.

I am not talking about transnational equality. And neither am I claiming that we have to deny things for the circumstances that make them so.

Why not the Ukraine?

When they became independent, the Ukrainian legislature officially changed the name. Not to make too much of a stink about it, but it would be similar to saying "Czechoslovakia" or "Yugoslavia" none of which exist any longer. It sounds a bit ignorant ( a lot ignorant)to criticize a place and not know the name of it. Who's word are YOU going to take?

Another factor is that Japan is almost devoid of christians

LA and Detroit and Mexico etc are almost 100% christian
