My wife entered the US at Houston Intercontinental airport POE on February 15. We received no less than 3 identical welcome letters (we got one of them on the same day as the green card LOL) and one receipt letter from the Texas service center. Her green card arrived in the mail on March 5. So, a little more than 2 weeks since she crossed the POE.

Also, her SSN arrived within one week after crossing the POE. And, this was interesting, it was a completely NEW number than the one she had been assigned on a J1 visit. Thought this information might be helpful to someone. We are very excited to be done for 2 years!

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Did she happen to check the box on the DS-230 requesting that a social security number and card be applied for in her name? I'm guessing that she should not have since she already had one.  You may want to pay a visit to the Social Security office and discuss this with them so it doesn't cause problems further down the road. Social Security numbers are definitely supposed to be one per customer.

I have a friend who applied for social security benefits, and was held up because his first name on his SS card did not match his first name on his birth certificate. (Joe vs. Joseph). He finally got it squared away, but took him about 4 months of going back and forth with Social Security. If social security is still around when it is time to apply, things like birth names and different numbers could come back and bite you.

NATURALIZATION

02/25/2014 - Eligibility date.

03/03/2014 - N-400 package mailed.

03/11/2014 - Check cashed.

03/14/2014 - NOA received.

04/09/2014 - Biometrics.

04/28/2014 - In-Line for Interview - 6 hours later Interview Scheduled!!

05/02/2014 - Interview Letter received. (Mailed on 29 April)

05/26/2014 - 3 year anniversary.

06/02/2014 - Interview. PASSED!

09/11/2014 - Oath Ceremony.

09/16/2014 - Updated driver licence and registered to vote.

10/08/2014 - Updated Social Security

10/14/2014 - Applied for U.S. Passport

10/27/2014 - U.S. Passport arrived in mail (13 days - DID NOT expedite)

I totally agree. They should immediately go to the SS office and inquire about this. it could save countless headaches later. :thumbs:
