Hi everybody! I live in NY state and I am waiting for Adjustment of Status and Green Card application to be resolved but I am getting bored stiff... Is it possible for me to volunteer for some sort of unpaid community project without violating terms of my entry to USA?

Yes. But the volunteer work cannot lead to paid work. Some people have tried to volunteer for their prospective employer but that's against "the rules". I understand the boredom.. I've been a "housewife" for 18 months-ish and WOW the boredom gets insane sometimes. You start to get used to it though. Thankfully we bought a house in September so LATELY I've been thinking about what needs to be done around the house. What I want to fix, what colours I want to paint what room.. etc etc Hobbies are great and I love watching the DIY channel. Certainly gives me ideas.. but FIL has the wood making stuff and we're not currently talking to MIL so... that 'aint gunna happen for a while.

For AOS? No no. I had that done in under 3 months. I just don't have a job yet for many reasons.

1. Lived in Houston and only had one vehicle and was NOT going to take public transport

2. Moved to Iowa and started buying a house with husband. Needed to be available to get stuff done when asked

3. I went back to Aus due to family emergency

4. Winter - My first winter and we didn't want me driving to work without proper experience

So NOW i should be able to get a job... if I feel like it. No real rush... might have kids instead :P
