Thank god it's not only me that deals with this. I love McDonalds..amongst many other fast food joints, and she won't do McDonalds unless I beg her, and then it's one of those stupid salads for her...Big Macs and Quarter Pounders for me :P

Same with the fruits and salads though...she spends more time in the produce section then the rest of the store combined. And for the food left out..ya it's me that puts it in the fridge, if not it would be sitting there all night.

Alla won't go to McDonalds even if I beg. She thinks it is one of the bad things about perestroika. We have very few fast food places here, just not popular in this part of the world and aside from a few McDonalds and Burger King's there just isnt any. When we went to visit some of my family a few months after she arrived in the suburbs of Chicago she was amazed (shocked) at the rows and rows of fast food joints. She told me that until then she had thought "what is the big deal about fast food in America, there is no more of them than in Ukraine"

She is none too thrilled about the boys working in junk food places, but she understands it is pretty normal for teenagers. Pasha is going to be working at a grocery store starting next week. That is better. :P

As it has worked out the last couple years (and again this year) Alla will go to Ukraine before Pasha and I, she will be there about 4 weeks before we come for 2 weeks and then we all come back together with Sergey for the summer. For those four weeks Pasha and I go "wild" I make chili and tacos and "bean casserole" we eat tater tots and "Goober Grape" sandwiches. Drink nasty Coca-Cola and shoot real guns in the basement. Pasha would drive her sports car (may it rest in Peace)and we sleep late and wear shoes in the house  she tells us to "behave" but Pasha tells her we will "have parties and break all the windows"

And THEN to top it off...we put all the food in the refrigerator!

well I always seem to loose a few pounds when I go over but not to worry I put it back on when I get home

I subsisted on cereal and milk for breakfast and microwaved chicken cordon bleu and beer for just about every other meal. So, I pretty much ate the same there as I eat here.

I was pleasantly surprised to find cutlets and mashed/fried potatoes at just about every restaraunt. At least I know there's something I like on the menu. Plus there are kiosks with rotisserie chicken, pies of all sorts, and even chinese food. Sbarro, Pizza Hut and McDonalds kept me powered up too. Not as many options as here in the States but I could at least keep my figure.

Been there, done that.

We have a photo from being there and my wife didn't actually have any food. My buddy and I were chowing down on some pseudo-beef and when we went to take the picture she grabbed his drink and slid his food over to pose with.

Now that she's been here for a while we do go to McDonalds but she only gets a sundae for $1 or a cup of coffee. She will NOT eat that food.

She kills some Whoppers though!

My wife refuses McD too, which is ok because I've seen Fast Food Nation. That put me off McDonald's forever. BK is off her list too. She will grudgingly do Wendy's if there are no other immediate alternatives, but she will murder an In-n-Out burger.

Subway is popular and one of Sergey's favorites in Moscow to get away from the school cafeteria food. When he cane here for the first time, the first place he wanted was "Subway!" We went to one in NYC on our way out of the airport. HOLY MOLEY! FOUR kinds of cheese! "I love this country already!" And WOW, they are about "10 times faster at making a sandwich than they are in Moscow" I told him, "yeah, they are about 8 times faster than they are in Vermont."

Gamburgers ( Russian for "hamburgers") of any kind are off limits for Alla. It is OK to make Ukrainian meatballs and fry them in oil....that is fine. But if you flatten that meat mixture out and fry it, then put it on bread...it becomes poison!

Mine will do Subway in a pinch, but she objects to the meat being "half water." Which I think is true of the turkey and ham, her two favorite meats. She's also horrified that they microwave the steak for the steak sandwich I always get.

Take her to an In-n-Out sometime, she'll change her mind on "gamboorgers" overnight. Mine did. :)

My wife loves my Gamborgers......nice ground chuck, mix in a package of Lipton Onion Soup mix.

Make large thick patties, grill properly, serve on large bun with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and slice of home-grown tomatoe.

Gamburgers....So this is why my girl always pronounces hamburgers funny  I always tell her to just say "burgers" instead.

We need a cook off :P I make some mean gamburgers myself. I'll grind some sirloin or tri tip in my food processor (don't trust supermarket ground beef), add some spices (salt, pepper, paparika, brown sugar), weigh out 6 to 8 oz worth of meat on a digital scale, use my burger press to form the patties and fire it on my propane grill.

American cheese, mayo and onions are all that I add after. Grilled bun is from the bread I bake in my bread machine. So its more like a patty melt.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Actually that isn't a bad price...and it qualify's for free shipping. Never used one before...but for that price it's worth a shot.

Wait until she's been here awhile. "Gamboorgers" will eventually turn into "hhhxamboorgers," which is close enough. :D
