Freedom of Speech does not extend to a privately owned forum, where its members have to obey by the forum's rules. These forum rules explicitly prohibit giving illegal advice. Suggesting to other members to lie on the N-400 form at a question that asks "have you ever been cited by any law enforcement officer for any reason?" is such a violation. More importantly, it's utmost dangerous advice which potentially could get someone's application denied, perhaps even his residency revoked, and deported.

I don't care if you accept that, and it doesn't matter to anyone. I ask you again from suggesting something illegal and potentially disastrous here.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Why is that traffic tickets thing such a big deal? Just disclose them on the application and that's all. Your IO will not care anyway. I remember specifically asking him if "detained" also included being stopped by police when speeding. He said:"Well, yeah, but that's not what we're looking for". And then I said that I did some research about the meaning of the word "detained" to actually know if being stopped by police when speeding means "detained". He interrupted me with a smile and said: "We don't care about traffic tickets".

As a conclusion: If your tickets are not over $500 and are paid, just disclose them and don't worry about it because they don't care.

I had my interview yesterday Bloomington, MN , and I asked the Immigration Officer if I was right to mention my traffic tickets in the application, he said: "We don't care about traffic tickets".

Stepdaughter also had her interview in Bloomington, MN, her IO made an issue when she was asked about traffic violations and she answered yes to that, but no to that never arrested question, says in the instructions, you don't have to include traffic violations with that question if under 500 bucks. But she got a decision cannot be made at that time.

We were expecting a letter to show proof she paid her two fines, one was around 80 bucks, the other 186 bucks. But got a letter instead to answer to battery and assault charges when she was 17 months and four years old, and proof she never had her drivers' license suspended. We had no way of proving about the battery or assault charges, but did get proof she never had her license suspended and sent that off to our senators office. One call from them straightened all that out, and hopefully, this coming Thursday she will get her certificate. Ha, told her not even to drive until then. Or if she does, make sure she is driving 24.5 and not 25.5 mph in a 25 zone, damned cops are all over the place.

Since we have been going to that Bloomington office about seven years now, her moms and my last bit of advice was to be 100% honest in all questions asked. When her IO came out, kind of say oh no to myself, know this guy as being tricky. On one hand you have the law, the other, the individual IO, and that can make quiet a difference.

Read and understood all the above BUT now what if I totally forgot about a speeding ticket and did not mention it in the N400? Am I in trouble now? I don't even know how much it was for and when exactly I got it. I do know it was last year and less than $500.

What do I do?

Don't worry about it, worry about it like it is the end of the world or what? Seriously.

The dance doesn't end until the music stops.

At the N-400 interview, the I.O. goes through the entire application while confirming with you that your answers are indeed correct. When it comes to # 16, you just mention that you once had a speeding ticket but don't even recall the year and He or she will nod, perhaps make a remark on the form, and thus you will have it formally disclosed under Oath and that covers it.

Just Bob is right - just mention it at the interview that you had forgotten about the ticket when you were completing the form and wanted to mention it now. It shouldn't be a problem.
