Hi - apologies if this is on the wrong forum.

I'm applying for a spouse visa and time is running out because things just seem to take so long, and information we are getting is conflicting.

I am a UK national living in the UK, but spent a significant amount of time in Hong Kong as a child - therefore I understand I need to get a Certificate of No Criminal Conviction.

Part 4(e) on http://www.police.gov.hk/ppp_en/11_useful_info/cert_no_crime.html#oversea states that I need to get fingerprints taken and certified. I was wondering if any other Brits have had to do this and what they did. Do I just walk into my local police station and ask if they would take my fingerprints then sign, date, certify it for me!?

The full text is:

"e) A full set of his or her fingerprints taken and certified by a recognized police or law enforcement agency where he or she presently resides. Certification of the fingerprints must clearly state:

i. The name and rank of the person taking the fingerprints

ii. The full name of the police or law enforcement agency with their official chop, and

iii. The date and place taken

Fingerprints submitted that do not clearly show certification are not acceptable. Fingerprints taken by the applicants themselves, a legal representative or private / commercial agency are also unacceptable."

Also, whilst I'm here how did people pay if they don't have a HK cheque book?!

Y mit E - thanks for reminding me.

hey ! 14K !!!!

If you were in HKG with UK citizenship, and left HK prior to turning 16 -

it's not reportable.

Thanks for the responses. I left HK at 18 (for uni) then moved back to HK after uni for a year and a bit, then permanently back to the UK again.

So I guess I really need the CNCC. Have made some enquiries with the local police station, and they weren't as confused as I was expecting them to be. Looks like it's going to cost 66 quid though! ridiculous!

Well I was just going to follow the overseas instructions. Mailing direct to HK Police should be quicker than mailing to a relative in HK and then asking them to deliver it to HK Police.

I'm still wondering about payment though. I would have to get my dad to send a HK cheque across - in which case it would take them ages to attach and recognise the payment against my specific paperwork surely!

Cheers

usually a buddy in HKG can do this for you - just send them 3000 HKG via western union for fees and grease payments.

make sure you have an original signed 'permission' form in his hands, to show the police department.

won't be same day on the issuance, have it mailed back to yer buddy, yer buddy send it off to you via dhl pack.

They'll still need the fingerprint cards - you can get that done at yer local constabulary office, and need a signed letter of attestation from them (stating what was done, who you are, they checked yer ID and passport, with ID and passport #) then send that to yer buddy.
