K3 to IR1/CR1

Hi, new to the forum. Just had a question. I applied for a K3 visa for my wife in September when I sent in the I-129f form shortly after getting the NOA1 for the I-130. I know, though that there is a chance that they will be sent to the NVC at the same time so the K3 would be closed and we would have to do a IR1/CR1 instead. 2 questions: 1. Is the IR1/CR1 still approved around the same time as the K3, if not sooner? In other words, it seems like the IR1/CR1 is preferable, so I'm just making sure that if the I-130/I-129f gets approved soon, either visa would be approved in the next couple months. 2. Since the IR1/CR1 is preferable, is there a way to actually cancel the I-129f and just wait for the I-130 to approved, or should I just wait and take the chance that they will both be approved at the same time? Thank you so much!

First, you filed petitions. You applied for no visa. When the I-130 is approved, your SPOUSE will be invited to apply for a visa. There is virtually no chance of avoiding both petitions being approved and forwarded to NVC the same day, resulting in the I-129F being administratively closed. Do NOT cancel or withdraw your I-129F. The damage is done, so don't risk doing more. You aren't taking a chance. Count on them both being approved the same minute. That's how it HAS been for four years and IS NOW. Just prepare for the CR1 or IR1 process as applicable. If by some fluke your I-129F doesn't get closed at NVC, simply ignore all correspondence related to it and pursue the Immigrant spouse visa.

Thank you for the help. I understood that I would most likely be doing the IR1/CR1 path now, but my other question was the timeframe after the I-130/I-129f was approved. Is it comparable with the K3? Do they both take the same amount of time to be processed and approved after recieving the NOA2 for the I-130 and I-129f?

Fair question, but you can find the answer from reading the threads and topics in this forum.

Let me know if you have problems with finding the topics in the K-3 forum, yes?

Since the non-existent K3 will take forever, no, they don't take the same amount of time. Time to study the next steps by reading the Guide and NVC shortcuts.

A well managed CR1 case will take about six to eight weeks longer from petition approval to visa interview, than the K3 would have taken if it were still available. Whoever advised you to file the I-129F hasn't been doing their homework for perhaps as long as 4 years. Don't make the same mistake they did.
