Hello, I was wondering, im a veteran and im planning to use my GI BILL which gives me a monthly allowence of 2500, but i dont have a current job. I was wondering if my parents can co sponsor? for her while i finish study. thanks.

Ah... I believe close family members- such as parents- are sometimes allowed, but not always. You might be best of asking specifically in the Philippines forum, as the VJ members there are the experts on the US embassy in Manila.

i did read on here awhile ago by an experienced member who went through the philippines that they usually accept a co-sponsor for those just out of school (college) or those in college and the co-sponsor was usually a parent.

But as Penguin_ie mentioned, best place to ask would be the philippines region forum.

Any USC can be a sponsor.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just talked with USCIS and they told me that the money from the GI Bill DOES count toward income. They told me any money I receive counts as income and can be noted on the affidavit of support.

Can free housing be counted as income?

Yes, sponsors receiving housing and other benefits in place of salary may count those benefits as income. The sponsor may count both taxable and non-taxable income (such as housing allowance). The sponsor must prove the nature and amount of non-taxable income. Evidence of such income can be a W-2 Form (such as Box 13 for military allowances), Form 1099 or other evidence.
