The states will accomplish what they want and not what the almighty in Fed land says we should. It is not the Feds role to hand down the tablets from on high and demand we do things. If the citizens in a state wish to change directions if they see things not working then let them do so and not wait for the Feds to figure out a new course that all states must try.

Of course let me repeat this again. The Feds answer will be to throw more money at this. It will not help but make matters worse.

I agree. There should be more autonomy. I am a teacher.

At the state but more so at the local level things can be seen and changed to fit the times or needs much faster than a huge Federal bureaucracy. At the local level the educators are able to give more input about needs and ways to effect positive changes. At the local level people are willing to listen and try to work on the solutions.

I know, wouldn't it be amazing to actually teach your subject matter instead of having your curriculum controlled by a test?

Having people who are so far removed from the students you actually teach, make decisions about how to teach your children, doesn't seem right. Context is everything. Students in a rural, southern town are

much different than students in a metropolitan city. There are so many factors determining that child's upbringing, that trying to fit them into a mold created on high is just not going to work. Students have to grow

at their own pace. They are all individuals.

Yes, a bureaucracy is good at creating robots.

Exactly. Amazing to hear this. Hard to motivate kids from different regions the same way. Cookie cutter approaches never work for this huge disparate country. Every adult can always remember the few teachers that touched them and motivated them and want to learn.
