Thank you guys! well the purpose of the e-mail was just to clear some doubt on the error we made since it was a general question. Has anyone here waited that long (three weeks) before hearing something from the USCIS?? Are there any 03/21 or post that date filers who are still waiting?? I have seen cases got a reply in a week or so!!!

For what it's worth...

I wrote out the payee line exactly as it was listed in the I-485 Instructions and they stamped OVER the handwritten payee info on the check with:

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Citizenship and Immigration Services

If they said it won't be grounds for rejection, I'd think it's true...

N-400

Feb. 12, 2016 - Sent N-400 to USCIS (3-year rule)

Feb. 19, 2016 - NOA1

Mar. 14, 2016 - Biometrics

June 2, 2016 - Interview - Recommended for Approval

Update - We received our biometrics appointment letter, but it says its for the I765 EAD .. should I be getting a separate one for the I485 or is this correct? Also, the appointment is set for April 29th, my wife and I will be in Mexico visiting her family on that day. Is it pretty standard to be able to do walk in appointments? I know that I can send the notice back requesting a new appointment, but I'd rather avoid any delays like that. If anyone could answer some of these questions for me I would appreciate it. Thanks!

dbarker2: I think the NOA you received is a good sign that your application is being processed and why you received the one for the I-765 is because this form is given the priority. I think it's best if you keep your biometrics appointment otherwise this will cause more delay to your case. If you are adjusting status, you cant travel outside the us unless you filed the I-131, Application for Travel Document or you have other documents that grant you entry on your way back o the states. I hope these infos are useful to you.

Cgolivas: congrats, and thanks for your comments. My package was sent in the morning of sat 03/19 via us mail and was delivered at noon on monday 03/21. how long have you waited to hear from the lockbox ?

Hey, thanks for your response. However, we can leave the country because we are on a K3 visa, not a K1. I think we were one of the last to actually get one before they stopped processing them. The K3 visa is a multiple entry visa and lasts two years, and leaving while Adjusting Status does not constitute abandoning the case like it would with a K1 without AP. Trust me, I did a LOT of research on it :) But I did look up some information and it looks like Salt Lake City is pretty good about allowing walk in appointments, so we will go sometime in the next week and a half before we leave for Mexico.

Thanks again for your response! And good luck to everyone, I just hope we get the biometrics appointments for the I485 within a couple of days so we can do them both at the same time.

No te preocupes! la mayoria de los casos aqui son de k1 :) I'm glad to see the list of March Filers start to gradually move to the bottom group and that so far the process is going fairly quickly.
