Hi there! I found this site through a google search and think it is wonderful! I have a few questions but first a bit of background on me and my situation.

I am Canadian. I came to NY in 2008 as a student (F1 visa) and stayed after my program ended on OPT. My OPT recently ended and I left (prior to it ending) and came back (in January) and now have a TN visa, which I got at the border no problem.

I met my (now) husband when I first moved in 2008, he is a US citizen. We were married November 2010. Just today we were at the lawyer's office finishing up the last of the paperwork and expect to file in 10 days (after the 60 day wait period due to entering on TN).

I have seen some of the time-lines below other posters' posts but am not so familiar with what all the acronyms mean, so I was hoping someone (or a few someones?) could spell out for me exactly how long the entire process took and what each step entails. I actually don't need an EAD since I have a TN (or do I?) but would LOVE my Advanced Parole to come quickly due to a sick parent back home, and the travel restriction after filing worries me. The lawyer we're working with seems to think the whole thing should be done by the summer - is that realistic?

And last question (for now- and it may be a silly one!) - my husband and I met on an online dating site. We have been together for 3 years and have LOTS of "proof" of a bonafide relationship/marriage (joint lease, joint checking/savings, filed taxes jointly, joint credit cards, etc. not to mention tons of pictures). Will it matter that we met online?

Thanks so much and good luck to everyone in their journey!

first of all welcome to VJ!!! and no it doesnt matter that you met online in fact a lot of couple on VJ met online :) Also it is really hard to say when your AOS (adjustment of status) will be approved but if your filing now then a summer approval is possible. (maybe no later than Sept) but that is not set in stone just a guesstimate....Good Luck

Lately the whole process has been taking around 3 -4 months. The Advanced Parole (AP) document should take about 3 months.

After you submit everything, you will get a letter to appear at your local USCIS fingerprinting office to get fingerprints and photos taken (called biometrics). Then you will get a letter to appear for an interview with your husband at your local USCIS interview office. Sometime in the middle you will receive an approval on the EAD and AP, though if your interview appointment comes quickly, you may get your GC before the other documents - they are on a separate timeline. Once you get your GC, you do not ned those temporary documents anymore anyway.

You can join other March filers here and compare progress, I am sure they'd love to have you. Good luck and congrats!
