Police Certificate

Hi all,

by the time we are approved and done with USCIS I will drive everyone crazy with questions...and I thought this was going to be a piece of cake.

I posted this question in K-1 forum but didn't get many responses but maybe I answered my own question. Here is what I posted.

I have read a few different things about police certificates and not sure about the following:

My fiance lived in two countries before moving to Canada.

We are getting a police certificate from the second country he lived in for a few years and was over the age of 16.

Do we need a certificate from the first country (country of birth) as well? He turned 16 there but did not live there for more than 6 months after his 16th birthday?? (He was born there and lived there until his 16th b-day).

Then I found this on the Montreal website....Pkt3 checklist....

Police certificates from each country in which the applicant has resided for one year or longer. The certificate(s) must be issued within one year of the date of the visa appointment. NOTE: An applicant must present a police certificate from his/her country of current residence and country of nationality, if residence in such country exceeds 6 months.

Anyone?

Just get one from each country and be done with it. That way you have one less thing to worry about. It's no big deal really. Just have the US citizen half contact the appropriate consular section for the country you need the Cert from. They will ask for some info such as dates they lived there, addresses, copy of passport. I did all that via email to Turkmenistan. It was really very easy and the Consulate was very professional (unlike USCIS).
