Semi-serious. Why the heck not? Have a problem in the ME? Ask Israel to help. They have the capability, are on the scene, and by assisting the rebels perhaps a little bonding could occur.

And if they did, it would be an open invitation to Syrian and Iranian accusations of US/Israeli imperialism/meddling and could well set off a major Middle East conflict.

As a side issue, the Israeli military is officially titled the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). Does anyone more familiar with the country know if there is anything in Israeli law that forbids their participation in miltary action outside the defence of Israel (similar to Japan)?

IIRC, Israeli rescue teams participated in the earthquake survivor search efforts Turkey in 1999 and provided aid and support facilities to Pakistan after the earthquake in 2005, so the humanitarian side is not beyond the realm of possibility. However, I think military involvement would be a recipe for disaster.
