Usually, when people are faced with options, and there being better options to be made- most intelligent people would choose to be smart.

I also want a choice to drink radioactive liquids. I am upset the government is regulating that as well.

Why shouldn't you have that right?

It's the same thing with the 'drug wars,' the FDA and their ban on certain foods that are perfectly OK to eat, but ignorance doesn't understand them... or even the ban on lead paint.. Things that are only harmful in certain situations.

We are such a reactionary society when it comes to our laws. Something that may harm only a few people shouldn't be taken away from the overall majority who either A- it won't effect at all, or B- are smart enough not to use certain things they don't like.

Many in our society (see the difference? I doubt it...) are ignorant. Case in point: stating lead paint as only harmful in certain situations is pretty telling.

Yeah, those certain situations are every day.

No.

Lead paint on the walls isn't going to harm anyone unless you're going around eating paint chips.

I bet you're not considering that wall paint regularly flakes off, and crumbles to dust. Lead paint is no exception, and it gets inside your system.

Now multiply this effect over a chronic term of a few years. Yeah, I see you are absolutely correct as usual.

How many people as a percentage of the population does this effect? There in lies your answer of how much a 'big deal' it really is.

I'm not too worried about the 0.4% of the population that end up with issues while the other 99.6% are immune or don't have to worry about it.

You can't stop accidents, you can't stop allergies/poisons, etc. There's always going to be people who are affected by things like this and those who are not.

No one is immune to lead. That's why they got rid of it in paint. It doesn't affect people as much now because we are not exposed to it.

At one time lead screening was a common test ordered on kids with learning problems and developmental problems.

What are your assumptions? For you to look at the entire population, you'd need a sizable representative sample to represent the entire population. Since you're not familiar with the actual toxicity, I might remind you the laws in place were created as a result of actual cases, over time. As in not now. Why? Because to my knowledge, homes with lead paint shouldn't exist right now.

Immunity to lead paint's effects? Yeah, read again the part about the toxicity.

If anything, a search about lead and immunity shows the opposite: exposure weakens immune responses in some cases and heightens allergic reactions (immune) in others. Maybe that's the 'variability' our statistical expert was talking about.

Wow, Gary and Steven agree on something.

I wonder how Hell freezing over is going to affect global warming?

Steven is right for once. He should try it more often.

I do not support government bans or regulations of the light bulb industry. It is self regulating. Incandescents are going to go away all by themselves. When something better is available for the same price and costs less to operate, it sells itself. Between switching ALL my light bulbs and buying a new high efficiency washer (which saves more on electricity than it does in water because the clothes dry in 20 minutes instead of 60 minutes) I have cut my electric bill more than $100 per month.

I could give a rat's @ss about imaginary global warming and you are free to eat all the paint you want...but I am saving $100 per month and that makes those decisions "no brainers"
