What Happens After You Mail the I-130 Out?

A few weeks after you have sent your petition to the USCIS you will receive a Notice of Action (aka NOA) letter indicating that they have begun processing your I-130 application. You can check the status of your application as well as other processing time information here.

If you click on "here" above, it goes to a bad page... can this either be updated or could someone reply as to where to check the status of the application? I've just sent out my packet yesterday for the I-130 and want to keep track of it every day ;P

You can easily just go to the USCIS website. Click on the " check my status " link and then put in your case number and it will look it up. You can also go to USCIS and make an account and put your case number in the portfolio and check updates that way.

Thanks YuAndDan, can someone flag a moderator to update that link then or add a bit of info to that guide?

On a side note though, thanks for the info on the account setup Inky!! That's going to be great. I want to go a bit advanced and do as much as I can electronically from here on out (Using James' guide etc) to expedite this process...

Either way (warning: dumb question coming probably lol) I'm going to have to wait for the NOA1 before I'll have any of the info for Case #s etc right?

Yep needa wait for the case number which is on the NOA1. They used to stamp them on the back of the checks but that does not seem to be done as much anymore or the number is wrong by a couple of numbers on it for some reason.

You can sign up for email and text msg updates if you make an account on the USCIS website, I did that and it was great because I got the text to check my email and then could check my email on my phone as well instead of waiting or trying to rush home to see what the text lead to at the email.
