DS-160: K-1 Visa

Hey Everyone!

So, I am just currently filling out the DS-160 online application for a nonimmigrant visa for my K-1 application. This must be filled out along with all of the other requested pkt3 paperwork through the consulate in Montreal. Anyways, there is a question on the application that asks for the intended length of my stay and there is no option to place 'Permanently'. It is a blank box with the option of putting years, months, weeks, and days only.

I called the NVC and the Department of State and neither of them had any idea on what I was talking about, nor the form that I was filling out. I called my immigration lawyer and he mentioned to put 90 days in there to be on the safe side.

Any other suggestions? I have no idea on how to proceed with it.

Then put a date in it way off in the future.

Filled my DS-160 yesterday with "50 years" for my K-1 application. You are immigrating so I would say it'd have to be in years whatever you put there.

K-1 seems to be dealt as non immigrant visas for some reason but your intent IS to immigrate.

US citizen since April 2016

ROC completed April 2014

AOS from K1 completed February 2012

I also did the same when I filled mine out, in 2009 I put in 70 years. They did not question any part of it at the interview and didn't even bring it up.

Ha, I was like, "whaaa?" when I filled it out yesterday and put 25 years.

April, 2009 - We met

May, 2009 - We wooed

June, 2010 - We got engaged, looking forward to a small August 2010 wedding

**5 months of patient waiting**

December 29, 2011 - call around for information about delay

January 5, 2011 - RFE notice (first online status update yet!)

January 10, 2011 - RFE Hardcopy

January 13, 2011 - RFE Response acknowledged

January 24, 2011 - NOA2 (at last!!)

February 3, 2011 - application sent from NVC to Montreal (aka. the Abyss?)

March 7, 2011 - Packet 3 sent to me

March 10, 2011 - Packet 3 delivered to Montreal

March 21, 2011 - Packet 4 sent to me

April 5, 2011 - Medical

April 13, 2011 - Interview - approved!

April 20, 2011 - visa in hand

With Packet 3, did anyone send in their birth certificate, police records, etc.? Not even photocopies of it? The proof of financial support? Or is that really just to be brought to the interview?

You do not send any of that.

You bring it to the interview. You must have the original as well as copys, they keep only copys. The only original they keep is the police certificate. Make sure to get extra copys of the birth cert, it is needed for things in the USA.

When I filled out that form I put 100 years lol Hope I live that long!

Yes bring all that stuff and a few copies of each thing to your interview. Do not mail them with your P3

Life is like a roller coaster. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!
