Police Check from Canada

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if it is possible to go to a police department in Canada to get the police check done if you are not a resident/citizen? I have already sent my stuff to the RCMP in Ottawa, but it is going to take a while and I am not sure if I can wait. I have heard it takes a few days to get it done at a police station, so if I can fly over and do it I would be able to save a ton of time.

Fantastic!!! Do you know anyone who has done that who doesn't live in Canada? On their website it says bring two forms of Government ID...I am guessing that my passport and license from my own country is good enough??

Thanks so much for your reply

Your other option is to go to the interview without it. They will approve it pending receipt of the Canadian criminal record check which you will send them once it's been received.

The problem is the RCMP response time. They're notoriously slow.

I was not a citizen of Canada and I managed to get my PC from my local police station and it worked just fine. I carried my passport along with my school ID and they didn't give me any problems.

Let me know/PM me if you have any more questions!

Thank you for all of the replies. I think I will just fly over and get it, because I have been told by the RCMP 8 weeks but have heard longer. Krikit was your student ID from Canada? I don't have any ID from Canada anymore, so would be using all UK ID.

Thank again!

In Ottawa, the main RCMP downtown near the museum, took me about 40 mins because there was quite a few people waiting for things also. But I got it same day as I went in. Payed in cash n that was it.

Thanks for replies everyone. I have called numerous police departments to find out it is no longer done for people outside of the country or people who have lived out of Canada for more than 5 years. RCMP it is then.

You can email David Greene (a very nice man) at Commissionaires in Canada. His email is dgreene@commissionaires-ottawa.on.ca They can do both name based and fingerprint based checks. He will send you a form and instructions. IT is very reasonable and much quicker than going to the Canadian Mounted Police.

Good luck. Let me know when everything works out.
