we're ready to file for my K-1 wifes AOS finally, over a month after her 3 month limit and 10 weeks after our marriage. We have a copy of her birth certificate in her language (Nepali) and also a tranlation cpy into english but its not signed or stamped, by anyone. I cant even remember where we got it. Could she just add that she translated it and sign it? or should we just get someone to sign in the original officials name? Or should we pay a ridiculous amount to have a usa translator re-do it and sign/stamp/etc?

then, after we do file all this stuff, will we really need to wait many months for her work authorization? she needs to work asap to support her family back home.

Know anywone fluent in both languages that can simply confirm the translation is correct? Should be confirmed by a third party, though I have seen many posts where the applicant certifies their own translations.

The third party can simply make a notation certifying that it is an accurate translation, sign date, and provide a contact number if questioned.

The person does not need to be a professional translator.

It does not need to be notarized.

  • Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.
The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:
    Certification by Translator
I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.
    Signature_________________________________
    Date Typed Name
    Address
  • USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.
