My wife needs to get a amendment (stamp) in her international Russian passport that indicates she uses her married name. This is because her passport is still in her maiden name. This stamp will come from the Russian consulate in San Francisco. My question is: has anyone gotten this stamp before from the San Francisco Russian consulate? The consulate won't answer the phone or answer any emails. I need to know the process and time involved, and any prior experiences from anyone will help me significantly. Thanks, Kimo.

Don't know about the San Francisco consulate, but we did this through the embassy in DC a few years back. I have been told the process has been discontinued and they will no longer give the stamp. All I can say is check their website and keep trying to make contact to ask them if they can still do it.

Hey Kimo !

Been going through this for the last 2 1/2 months with Olga's passport. She has called everyone from the passport office in Izhevsk, to Moscow,to the Russian Embassy in Washington DC. The latter 2 tell her that they do not stamp the passports anymore.

In our case Olga is going back to visit on the 21st of this month. She turns 45 on the 24th of March. She tells me that they receive their " internal " passorts at ages 14, 20, and 45. Now that she is a U.S. Permanent Resident ( green card arrived yesterday !! :D ) I did not think it would matter ... but she has informed me ( about a hundred different times  ) that it most certainly does because 1.) she changes her family name on the internal passport and her residence and this takes her name off of the apartment where her son,daughter-in-law, and grandson lives and reduces rent, utilities, and so on .... and 2.) she has to have her new name on the " internal " passport to apply for her new name on the " international " passport. She is taking with her our marriage certificate, a certified notorized russian translation of the marriage cert. AND an Apostille of the cert. and translation ! I had no idea what an Apostille was !! If you don't know, it is basically a 1961 Hague Convention notary that notarizes the county clerk ( marriage cert. ) and notary ( for translation of said cert. ) are indeed notaries !!

The Secretary of State of your particular state ( the Index department in Illinois ) provides this service and it only cost $4 and a trip to downtown Chicago yesterday for us. :)

Anyway, sorry to be so long winded here. Every situation is different but I think Neon is correct .... they don't do the stamp anymore.

Best Wishes and Good Luck !

We tried to change my wife's name in her internal passport a few years ago. We brought the same documents but there was something they didn't like about our marriage certificate. As I recall it had her name, my name, but not her new married name. Anyway it didn't work out for us so we just gave up. Found out we really never needed her new name in the international passport anyway.

 Oh Christ ! I had better NOT tell Olga that ! At one time I thought " I " could come up with some pretty obscure things to worry about .... compared to my lovely wife ... I AM A PIKER !!! :D I leave on the 18th of April to join her in Russia. If there is a problem with the cert. between her arrival and mine ... I KNOW I will get a hundred phone calls ( thank God for WDT ! ) Thanks for the heads up !!!
