Just curious to see if anyone has questioned something through the ACLU and if so, were you successful? I'm looking at something myself.

Care to elaborate? Success depends upon whether what you considered a violation was, indeed, a violation. I do know that for the most part, they will have an officer follow up to make a determination,

Nothing to do with immigration at all. Has to do with a "State" employment application form and certain types of questions they are asking on this "20" page application. Now I'm wondering if this would be the right place to forward a copy of this application to. I'm asking that someone review the application and let me know if certain things they are wanting to know is legal. Trust me what is on this application form is in my opinion "none of their business."

Start with the state labor bureau instead.

Ironic that it's a state job...

If this is for the agency you mentioned before, they may have more lattitude in the questions they can ask--security & all that jazz...

There *will* be background checks too.

I know I emailed the ACLU repeatedly when Terri Schiavo was being starved to death. Not cos they took out her feeding tube, mind you...but when the police guards standing over her bed refused to even allow her to get the Last Rites Sacrament with Holy Communion.

They never responded.

The ACLU is not a government agency, and it has the discretion to choose which issues it will become involved in on a case by case basis. Civil liberties encompasses the general individual freedom issues found in the Constitution, those being, for example freedom of speech, association, and religion. This might be a Civil Rights agency matter, rather than the EEOC.

Add: The DOJ is the authority of that department, so it might have more scrutiny.

In our Republic, we usually go to the State first. ;)

But hell, pull out the Feds if you think it will help!

 Damn! It's the State that's giving her hell. Im my Republic, we say "pull out them big guns"

In all seriousness, though, the Labour Department would handle wage and hour issues, and I'm not sure if this issue would fall under the Fair Labour Standards Act, but it might. It doesn't hurt to try, then if nothing happens, try the other agency.

Not even sure that they take on individual issues, but only deal with issues that they feel are in violation of the US Constitution. Most conservative Americans hate them since they take on issues such as Christmas displays, prayers in school, etc., but perhaps, it may be argued that their work, however unpopular might be necessary...at times, Im not sure.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

What I find amusing about that is that I used to live in New Jersey, where most of the religious issues were pro religion: the ACLU fought for the right of a Catholic man to receive treatment at a fundamentalist Christian drug rehab program, Christian kids to distribute Bible verses in school and have Bible quotes in their yearbook profiles, and so on. Their big case right before I left was one where they got the NJ Supreme Court to rule that people couldn't be excused from jury service because they were too religious (a prosecutor had excused a Muslim and a fundamentalist Christian from a jury on the grounds that religious people are less likely to convict).
