Yes, because any diversion from a course back to the stone ages and any attempt to enter the 21st century is absolutely anti-American. God forbid this country actually assumes a leadership role in this world again.

I thought the left didn't want the US to bully the rest of the world anymore, you know, be wimps like all those European nations, and not anger the Muslims and make peace with the Communists.

Leadership isn't bullying. Its odd someone of your age (guessing by the user ID) hasn't gotten that.

So, you make all those? I was wondering where they were coming from.

You should not be forced to pay this tax? Nobody is forcing you to pay SS. You know you do have a choice of working for organization that does not pay into SS. Some have their own retirement plans and then have no SS deductions.

Why should I be forced to buy insurance? I don't want it and I shouldn't be forced to pay into it. I am taking care of myself thank you.

Oh silly me. I just realized, that the reason why you do not like SS so much, is not ideological. You do hate it for one and only reason - because you do not expect to get more out of it than what was taken from you by that very system.

(1) You want to set up the pay out age and close the program such that it would benefit you.

(2) Although you expect the system to fail, you also say you'd be the first to take this handout if it was still available.

So you managed to play all your cards well (with your good 401K and retirement), but not this one. And now you are bitter towards those who, in your perception, did play that system well.

What a shame...

Although I find selfishness repulsive, I agree that it is up to others if they want to be that way. Just let's not wrap this selfishness in lies of false patriotism and freedom loving.

That is you opinion, of course that isn't worth much. I think it is anti-American to force something down our throats just because of your feelings. SS was unconstitutional when it was passed and it still is. The only reason it got through is because of the worthless FDR packing the SCOTUS. He should burn in hell for the damage he caused this country.

20 years from now we could have one half of the country supporting the other half.

The United States will not exist in 20 years - the country will go bankrupt and disintegrate much sooner than that.

The country's debt is a Titanic and the Republican-Democrat regimers are arguing over the deck chair arrangement.

We are past the point of no return, I'm afraid. :(

The question you should ask yourself (and what should bother you) is why is elected official X worried about what I am going to do when I retire.

It's the job of he government to educate people on being the best person they can be, not dominate them/control their lives.

Social Security/Medicare like all phony/corrupt government programs do nothing more than make people dependent on the government for their life at a certain age.

Now while some of us aren't stupid enough to let that happen, there are plenty of sheeple who buy into the mantra that it's basically their retirement fund/health care.

If the government was at all serious about SS/medicare, you would ONLY get out of it what you put in, and it would be placed into a secure/interest baring account starting from the moment your first payment was made into the system.

If you worked from 18 until 60 and put even as little as $20 a week towards retirement into muncipal bonds you'd end up a millionaire when you retire.

Education is key for people... Socialism is not.

I will be very interesting when the IMF says that the US $ is no more the reserve currency.

People are freaked by $3.50 gas prices... Wonder how they'll feel about 2 1/2 times that?

You mean, like in Europe where gas prices are (and always have been) around $7-9 per gallon ?

Does this mean the US is going to finally cut defense spending ?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I make 'em, you buy 'em. Every now and then, though, I'll send you a freebie. :P

You would surprised at all the things I haven't got yet, like genital warts, or a lobotomy.

Raise taxes and everybody wins.

You mean "everybody loses", but yeah - that's what's coming in the years ahead.

Crippling taxes and zero growth.

And then some states will realize they can do much better on their own... and that'll be the end of the United States.
