I might also add that I only live 4 miles from work. Even at $4.00/gal and my car getting 15mpg I only spend less than $50 per two week paycheck. Why stand out in the cold to save a few bucks and risk getting mugged?

I don't care. I ride public transport when it suits me, like when we visit a big city. Otherwise, no thanks. I had my fill of it in Ukraine.

Well, as we have no public transportation that would be kind of impossible. We did switch to just one car though....very glad we did. When we were still in the UK, I used public transport all the time.

Save? Nothing, because the traveling I must do can't be done using mass transit. I am surrounded by bus and train lines, none of which will take me to work or ShopRite or Costco or the doctors office.

Made my husband move to a neighboring state as I was tired of wasting time on the train - 60 min commute in total (when the train wasn't late). Now still use the train but commute is 15 minutes only.

Husband uses the car to get to/from school.

I might be biased, being a hardcore classic car and bike collector, but while I might save money riding a bicycle or the bus to work, it would compare to have sex with a blowup doll instead of the high class hookers.

Where's the fun in that? Money isn't everything, you know!

What I did when I lived that distance from work. It was a good way to stay in shape.
