What information can US consulate see?

I am just wondering, what information does the US consulate see when you apply for a visa? I know they can see all of your records from past visas/trips to USA and criminal records. What about marriage records? Do they have those or are those only stored by the county/state you were married in? Thanks for any insight.

For countries where they are stored on a national level you can bet the local US Embassy has access to Marriage & Birth records as well as Criminal records.

In the Philippines (for example) the US Embassy can request your documents directly from the NSO (National Statistics Office).

What about inside the USA? I am trying to get enough information to give my friend an informed opinion. I know inside the USA marriage records are stored by county. Would they actually check all marriage records in the USA or is it best to just be completely honest with them, because they would find out eventually when he would try to file an AOS?

I can't honestly answer if they do a public records search that includes marriages but I do know that they do background checks which could include public records in addition to criminal records.

Bottom line if he either side lies about anything on any of the forms it can be used to revoke any approvals and benefits derived from the form. Knowing that I have to ask, why risk it?

Don't forget that if someone was previously married they probably filed taxes as married at some point in time.

They can see all marriage records, there was a OP(USC) who forget about a marriage, and her case has been sent back to USCIS for misrepresentation.

what is OP? and how do you forget about a marriage?

See the PM being sent to you.

Now that's not fair! A link to that other post would be useful to anyone with a similar question who finds this thread.

Bob, they can re-search it themselves, I will not be putting someone's business out in public, even if they have done so themselves. It's just my sense of privacy to a delicate issue. Sorry.
